Anyways some have commented in the forums of Macross World and in Animesuki that the animation quality dropped when KMU did the work.Makes me ashamed at times reading those comments.

wow.. just watched episode 6. i didn't expect i'll see a VF-X2 Koenig Monster!
bai, macross and robotech storyline is very very different. ang kad2ng robotech sauna kay american produced nga 3 ka unrelated animes rolled into 1, and the 3 different animes conveniently called sagas. so ang saga 1 sa robotech kay ang macross. nya from there, different na siyag story.Originally Posted by chagorio

Notes about Robotech
Robotech is the butchered US version of Macross done by Harmony Gold. It was dubbed, heavily edited and the plot was completely rewritten.
The actual episode count remained, as did the rough episode structure.
ang timeline sa macross kay: macross zero -> macross -> macross plus -> macross 7 -> macross f
wa ko kibaw unsa sa robotech
Harmony Gold purchased the rights to the animation of the original Macross TV series and combined it with footage from two other Japanese mecha shows (The Super Dimensional Calvary Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada) to form the American TV series known as Robotech. As a result, most of us have usually correlate Macross Plus or Macross II as sort of continuation to robotech.. although except for the fact that some of the TV footage from Macross is used in Robotech, and saga 1 of robotech, though, is taken from the original macross anime. the two shows have absolutely nothing to do with each other and in fact contradict each other in many ways.. Likewise Southern Cross and Mospeada have absolutely no relationship to Macross in Japan.. you will never see Dana Sterling or Scott Bernard appear in a sequel to Macross..
timeline wise, it may appear na ang macross zero na una.. but actually it's only at September 2008 when U.N. government and Anti-U.N. forces secretly deploy the VF-0 and SV-51 respectively while disputing over a recently discovered phenomenon on the island of Mayan in the South Pacific Ocean. (Macross Zero.. was kept for few decades) while SDF Macross started at 1999 upon investigation by the United Nations, the meteorite is determined to be an alien spaceship designated with the codename ASS-1 (Alien Starship-1).. then reconstruction and scheduled launch at 2006.. but it was only at 2009 when such was named macross.
