you should check the duet album of Chic Corea and Bela Fleck.. it's amazing how sometimes the banjo of Mr.Fleck sounds like the piano of Corea...

Yeah sakto ka Kenny G is a pop artist who happens to blow a sax.

La pa ko kadungog ni Earl Klugh. The only Earl i heard of is Earl Scruggs of Flatt and Scruggs

hi guys. I would like to share some tips on how to play jazz and blues. Since this thread relates to those who participated, here's mine.

    To Jazz:

    1. Learn the modes more than the diatonic and melodic minors.
    2. Study syncopation and improvisation.
    3. Develop aural training so that you can familiarize by ear, accidentals(#,b) and natural notes (no #, no b).
    4. Avoid doing chromatic passages if it's not a part of the entire progression, instead add "fillers" or "pass chords" like#5, m+M7th and m6th notes accordingly for emphasis.
    5. Vary the rhythm and practice odd meter. Use rubato. Feel your notes.

    As for the blues,
    1. Play with conviction. Pick harder for accentuated notes and softer for in-between, in that way, you convey a message. Try hitting the strings "upstroke".
    2. Learn full bend, half bend and combination in one string. Add #4th, m6 and 7+9th to your melodies.
    3. Try to adopt rhythmic displacement, picking faster and slower at will for expression.
    4. Use odd meter approach to vary the 1-4-5 progression. Example, start at shuffle or do a delta, and then smoothly do a staccato or go wild with Chicago, then back to shuffle or ragtime or crossover, to spice things. Add flavor by fusing 2m and #4th7+9 in your cycle.
    5. Explore a lot of minor pentatonic options, use "power chords" or major+perfect 5th intervals with added 6th or inverse 9th for rhythmic power and style. Let it growl.

Above all, study the history of Jazz and Blues. Happy groovin!
