The life of a daughter was disgraced and taken away, it would aggravate the pain of the perpetrator knowing that he can't protect his own. That way it would be empathetic and the pain of the victim's parents would be simulated.
Even with death penalty back, the urge to rape and kill would still be strong. Death is short, but the pain of a loved one being disgrace and killed is lasting. Besides, new research suggests that criminal behavior is hereditary. Lineage of criminals will be stopped.
That reasoning is really sick. Criminals who commit these acts are probably estranged from their families or beat them up into submission. And now the families of those criminals will be punished? That is plain wrong because they did not choose who their parents or family members are or will be.
My father was a drunk driver and gun-toting hothead. Does that make me one too?
