do you know anybody who can take care of the piglet for me sa province?
Question: im venturing in to business - in im really interested in raising pigs..
Where can i get training and learn more information in raising pigs?
Is there any Government project D.A that supports, people who wanna
invest in agriculture piggery, etc.. in Cebu, im sure there is, but where?
Is raising pigs, profitable business? Advantage or Disadvantage.
How much capital do you need to start.?
I'd would appreciate if anyone who has experience or is involve with this business
can give me tips on this.
help pls..
I think major suppliers of hog feeds have seminars on how to start a piggery. They will teach you what you need and they will supply the feedsrhyme sa
just try to contact them
Try the DA first. They can give you pointers. Or search online. There are books on hog raising, I'm not sure if DA has them. I saw one in Manila before, National I think. Maybe they have it here. Attend DA seminars if they hold them. Feed suppliers can provide information and technical assistance as well, but there might be a catch. Besides, sometimes using commercial feeds isn't financially feasible especially if you have a big population.
Capital requirements would depend on the scope of your venture...how many heads are you planning to raise? What is your lot area? Is your location feasible for hog raising? What breed of pigs do you intend to raise? Do you have ready buyers? Can you stand the smell?(But true..because one thing I learned from hog raising is that you have to be committed to the farm, literally. It's not something you leave to the caretakers and just drive there in your Pajero from time to time to check up on the farm..that's a romanticized version, and there's nothing romantic about hog raising, especially if your sow gives birth at 2a.m.(and it frequently happens) and you're fresh from a drinking session, but you HAVE to be there. It's hands on management all the way. ) Agri ventures demand commitment in terms of time and money, and the pay off is long term, if the venture doesn't die from lack of commitment (or disease) halfway.
You have to consider things like biosecurity, health and sanitiation, and waste processing. There are clearances required from various government agencies, down to the local barangay.
Before you decide to enter the business, just make sure you are financially, physically, emotionally, and psychologically prepared. I'm not kidding about the commitment part though, that's the only way the business can survive. Wish I could get into the technical details, but I'm no expert. Sorry. Good luck!
