Howdy, I'm glad that lots of people nowadays are interested to become one. I have heard that high-school students are now capable of developing and designing a website. I acquired the same knowledge via self-study. The primary ingredient to become one really is "Interest".

Probably when I was still learning flash it was the most exciting moment of my development stage. That was like 8 years ago (OMG i didn't know it was that long o____O)...
Yeah! I remember it was like I couldn't get enough of flash and photoshop so I studied for 12 straight hours trying to figure out how to do those silly old preloaders and fancy flash animations... (ahhh yes the ray-of-light effect) good times ^_____^
nice ni nga thread dah.. bookmarked nani.. hehehehe...
For my opinion, I think it's OK to start learning CMS(Joomla or Drupal) because it's almost already in there, you can create website in just couple of minutes or hrs. Although you still need to learn the coding for debuging or tweaking something on your website.
Now it's not hard to learn because of internet. The only hindrance stopping you to LEARN is YOURSELF. You must have to put time to learn, maybe 1 hr per day. Learn step by step, chapter by chapter.
@ flashfweak! : ewww ur sooo old mate hahahaha jk
@ puffy: the best advise i cud give you is learn the fundamentals, the ins and outs of XHTML and CSS. And learn PHP from ground up not just jump directly into learning Joomla and Drupal..once you get the grasp of PHP thats the time you jump into CMS types....my point? sooner or later you will grow big, client will demand more from you and perhaps built customized apps for them...if you were only into DRUPAL and Joomla then thats a big prob....
..seriously this is what i have seen lately, most beginners would just go for CMS, its easier, faster and lots of pre-built themes and can earn you load of bucks right away... but... it wont land you anywhere
trust me, i have seen and interviewed a lot of peeps around only to learn that they are just good with CMS, let alone would just copy/edit themes from the internet and claim it as their own.
