I'm part of the security preparation committee for the ASEAN. Only accredited photo journalists can get close. In fact, the entire Mandaue Reclamation area and the Mactan Channel will be put on a state of blockade. There will be no-fly zones near the CICC, Shangri-la, Plantation Bay, Hilton, Waterfront Lahug and Marco Polo including the ceremonial routes. That's practically the entire Metro Cebu. No unauthorized boats could get close to Mactan. Shipping traffic would be put into a virtual standstill because every boat will be boarded by the navy and coast guard upon approach to the Channel and departure from the ports.

If you are not security-cleared, - meaning, you don't have one of those IDs that transmit your bio-data when you get close enough to the CICC, you might find the EF 1200mm f5.6 useful if you could find a suitable vantage point.

Anyway, I don't think those Premiers are visually ineteresting

If still interested, good luck shooting those limousines that pass those routes. There is still time to practice panning.

    @ Isabella rain,

You've mentioned that you are part of the security preparation committee. Just want to know when will the actual implementation of the security measure start? We are planning on taking a tour on the neighboring small islands of Mactan such as nalusuan, hilutungan and kauwagan islands this Dec. 9, 2006. We were wondering if we will be affected by the security measures in place? Total, Dec. 11 paman mo start diba? thanks in advance.

Full security measures will be in place on the 9th. In fact, some of the neighboring islands/islets are already secured. However, there is nothing to worry if you are conspicuosly "clean" and do not come too near Shangri-la where 12 of the 17 heads of states will be staying (that's why most of the meetings will be held there for convenience) and Plantation Bay.

The PSG also indicated that no total blockade will be implemented. That means that the usual passenger vessels can still ply their routes. If you are flagged and boarded, just relax. They won't feed you to the sharks if you do not look like those bayan muna protesters. So, no tubao, scarfs and tacky-looking ethnic bangles and bling-blings - the usual costumes of our ultra-nationalist clowns. And DON'T BRING GUNS. Even of the airsoft variety. If you bring guns, it might be too late to negotiate with rushing M-50 cal. projectiles.

    Happy trip.
