as what my friend told me.. its partly a man-made disaster waiting to happen.. such high casualties could have been avoided..

anybody heard of poor construction? my friend who happens to be an engineer said that their buildings arent designed for such earthquakes unlike japan which even if you throw a 9.0 magnitude earthquake, skyscrapers will still be there..

and also, we shouldnt worry too much in our country if such earthquake of magnitude hits, our engineers and architects have incorporated earthquake designs to our buildings.. the worst we should worry about are landslides example would be baguio..

too ease your minds, i suggest you ask engineers for professional advice before building your houses (most sa ato kababayan dili mo consulta engineer or architect pag construct sa ila balay, magsalig ra sa panday og mason)
