dmelsie: in all due respect, saying World of Warcraft is overhype? 12 million people play it, this is the largest subscribed/P2P MMO in the world. People generally hate and don't play wow because you need to pay monthly subscription for it by the way. You should know wow is still rank #1 even now and its almost 5 years old. Seriously try the game before assuming, at-least get to level 80 and play for a month. World of warcraft's fun begins at max level, because you can do so many things, PVP or PVE, or anything you like. Try raiding 10 man and 25 man, try doing world first boss kills in your server, etc etc.

World of warcraft already proved that graphics is not everything, an almost 5 year old engine since launch, yet holds the record of the most subscribed mmorpg in the world, also in Guinness World Records.

It's like saying Michael Jordan is overhype and kobe bryant is better /facepalm

yes this is aion thread, but bashing wow without facts? errr? it's like "this game sucks because i say so" or "the best game i ever played was Crysis because of its awesome graphics and gameplay, everyone should agree with me.."
every person has different taste, opinions and such, but saying World of Warcraft is overhype ? that's just stupid, wait just ask 12 million people that question, and also one of the governors in europe play the game by the way lol!

Aion online = wow killer? lets see what happened in the past:

List of games claimed to be wow killers by many people and many websites like mmorpg.org, mmorpg.net, onrpg.net, etc:

Everquest 2 = Failed (Released very close to WoW, anyone still remember?)
Final Fantasy 11 Online = Failed (it got sucky when people need to do the same thing)
Tabula Rasa = Failed (sigh wasted mmo it had great potential)
Hellgate: London = Failed (suppose to be the diablo replacement, and wow killer)
Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning = Super Failed (great server launch, but end game there was nothing to do especially at max level, it even shutdown 60 servers because of lack of population lol).
Darkfall Online = More Failure! (already claimed to beat all mmo yet it didnt even surpass open beta lol)
Guild Wars = Failed
Guild Wars: Nightfall Expansion = Failed
RF Online = Super Failed (claimed by many pinoys to be the best mmorpg lol)
Vanguard: Saga of Heroes = Failed (even with awesome graphics)
Lord of the Rings Online = Failed (actually more subscribers now then warhammer online)
Pirates of the Caribbean Online = Failed
Age Of Conan: Hyborian Adventures = Failed (sigh the beginning was so good, end game playing sucked)
Disciple = Failed
Furcadia = Failed
Second Life = Failed ? (is this even the same genre? Social MMO?)
Gaia Online = Failed
Waku = Failed

Why did they all fail ? because they are all trying to copy, follow world of warcraft, look at warhammer online that's like wow with upgraded graphics. Hopefully Aion is going for another direction not the one warhammer online did. A company should aim to make there game Unique, Fun, Exciting, Different. Not make it like world of warcraft! Most people won't even move to another mmorpg game because its in the same ERA/Fantasy, like Sword/Elves/Etc. People want something different like upcoming starwars mmorpg, or star trek mmorpg, all the future, not fantasy mediv. if they can do this then aion can beat wow or compete.

I love silkroad, i used to play that before when i took a break from raiding in world of warcraft i remembered max level was still 60, then 70. I had to gave my account away thou.

World of warcraft does get boring and stale for some people, but that doesn't mean its sucks and its overrated, there will never be a game you won't get bored with, even a little. anyway i am also trying out aion, and been have since closed beta, will try this game for a month and see how it goes. and right now servers are up but a huge queing begins, dead logins, Authenticating servers still down!:
