Default Re: CALL CENTER Health Hazards: does the BPO company care?

which of the two is prone to cancer?

the point is food is mainly cause of cancer, not the sleep.
even if we work on graveyard shift if we eat healthy foods and we don't smoke and drink it less to have cancer compared with people who sleep at night but does smoke and drink... [br]_________________________________________________

if that's all you understood after reading -if you even cared to read- all the articles and videos posted on this thread; that only food causes cancer, then it's up to you, it's your life. you can believe in whatever you believe in, nobody's forcing you here.

here's a report from WebMD that IT'S NOT ONLY FOOD that causes cancer:

"This month, the World Health Organization's cancer division will classify shift work as a probable carcinogen - just like anabolic steroids, ultraviolet radiation, and diesel engine exhaust."

    WebMD

    ANABOLIC STEROIDS is not FOOD
    ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION is not FOOD
DIESEL ENGINE EXHAUST is not FOOD

but hey, all of them causes cancer if exposed to in large dosage.... hmmmmm...

even if you eat healthy, don't smoke and don't drink alcohol excessively BUT are exposed to the above examples, then the risk is still high that you may develop cancer. got it?

so after the WHO classified NIGHT-SHIFT WORK as a probable carcinogen -just like the three mentioned- then no matter how healthy your food intake is, no matter how you shy away from alcoholic beverages and don't touch a stick of ciggies in your whole life, YOU are still prone to developing cancer IF YOU WORK THE NIGHT SHIFT for a long period of time.

what's so hard to understand about that very simple explanation?

maybe you need to read a lot of references from now on and don't believe on Cancer Research UK solely. just the same as when you need to get a second opinion from another doctor on your afflictions, get another source to compare with, so you won't be a human guinea pig in the process.

here's some important points from SFGate.com entitled: Keeping the "grave" off the "graveyard shift":
    [br]_________________________________________________T ips for staying healthy

-- Those who work five nights a week should stick close to the same schedule on days off.

-- Try to go to bed as soon as possible after getting off work.

-- Set up a bedtime routine - something to signal to the body that it's time to sleep. That could mean making a cup of tea or
taking a hot bath or shower.

-- Wear dark sunglasses when leaving work in the morning.

-- Use window coverings that block out all light. Sleeping masks also can help.

-- Get rid of noisy distractions.

    -- Make time for exercise.

Its totally not healthy to work in a night shift. Our bodies are made to sleep at night. Its like having jetlag every working day. Our body cannot take much of this type of habit. Its the very thing that reverses the natural chemistry and its directly puts our bodys' energy recovery system into haywire.
I believe cancer has a higher probability on factors such as food intake and smoking.
Sleep deprivation can indeed cause cancer but not as much as food intake and smoking factor even the margins are considerably large between them.

    Just my two cents.

    take vitamins
    drink lots of water
drink at least 1 glass of milk per day
have at least 7 hours of sleep per day

that's how I maintain my daily routine despite of my stressful day

its not true our body is designed to sleep at night. it varies from person to person. some person are active at night and some are on daytime. nothing is wrong with that. what is wrong is the lifestyle itself.

Bumping a 5 year old thread....

    lol.

What causes cancer cells has never really been proven. There are people who never smoked a cig in their lives that get lung cancer.
Just a mutation in the cell perhaps?

Kani mn gd ang lifestyle sa call center agents, kada adlaw mag inom, imbis mo uli para mo pahulay, mo adto sa route stop sa lahug para mag inom ug sigarilyo.

    Grabe kaau ang queuing brah?

^ It mainly goes back to lifestyle. imo, Its not the job that causes cancer. Well, dili raman BPO ang active in the night. How, about security guards, police, tanod, fishermen(Katong tarong ha way labot mga lousy).. proper rest, diet and nutrition rajud ang key for a healthy life. Also possible pd nga hereditary ang cancer.

wew, bumping this gor thread. haha
