@giver_bert, here's the quick of it.
Blongkoy - busy with reviving the lokal Visayan film industry as so Sam Costanilla reports in his Monday Sun.Star column.
reggiebuang - I believe he has evolved as Reginald. Busy with work, I think, as part of Beor's corporate crew.
blade101 - busy with work, work and more work. He's a professional writer I believe, like I am.
d'monyita - one of iStorya.net's favorite mommies (the other is Ma'am Galadriel); busy rearing her Anton perfectly.
Carlo Borromeo - I believe he is busy with hotel/resturant/business management. But he's always got a story in mind, question is does he have time to write?
crashburn - Work, photography business and keeping thisbe happy.
avrilrockz - I see around in the many threads of iStorya.net... sometimes she posts poetry sa Poetry board.
tikboy - ah I haven't met or know or heard of tikboy
giver_bert - pursuing his passion of collecting memorabilia of contemporary popular culture and striving not to play with them... much...
I guess that's all I can say about that.

Hello diem!
In truth, I have been very frustrated of late. I have had to set aside my personal writing because of a rather important project at work. I did it with a heavy heart (and a little bit of rage, hehehe) because I've had to get out of the nice little bubble of inspiration I managed to create, and I know the longer it takes for me to get back into it, the farther away it will drift.
But I can't push my mind or body to their limits.
Anyway. I see there are some of us wanting to get into poetry. Well, I'm into poetry but I'm also just learning. I'd like to share these thoughts from one of my favorite reference books: Writers Inc.
One of my favorite lines from this book is what the author calls "a poetic definition of poetry" -- a poem is words dreaming in a bed of language.
How do you write a poem -- a good poem? Here we step a few feet into a land of mystery. No one knows exactly how good poems are written, not even poets. Without a doubt, however, the best preparation for writing poetry is reading good poetry. A few hours of deep communion with a short poem by Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, or W.B. Yeats, for example, will teach you more than twenty-seven sweaty afternoons with a poetry manual. Nevertheless, a few hints may help.
However, I post more some other time. It's late and I'm hungry!

I understand how that is. It's like you're working abroad in a foreign country and you're missing out all the fun to be had here with family and friends. But one makes time to communicate with family and friends right? One can spare a moment or two just to look at a family picture, remember the good times and look forward to the coming better times.
The same can be done with writing, it only takes a moment to reaffirm to oneself to what one's wants to do, to where one wants to be. Keeping the flame alive is enough for now, because there will come a time and place when that flame will come in handy, like those ten virgins who kept their lamps full and lighted for the Prince's coming.
Keep the flame alive.

@everyone:
It is so heartwarming to see old posters (my batchmates-- yes, I do admit I am getting old!) in this thread. Berto, my male counterpart, I missed you here! So, what's this about poetry and all? I need to talk to you--- there must be something new and juicy in your life (hmmmmm..) . Your skimming of very old posts brought a lot of memories. I miss Daddy Blade and Tikboy, too. (Tikboy is my batchmate too, and I call him "Idol" in writing because basically, we have more or less the same flair). Last I heard, he is busy with work, still with the same company, and loveless.I'll try to let him come back to join Diem's minions here.

Yes, yes, Diem is right. I am now working elsewhere and as for your question Kuya if I still have more time to write--- I guess we have answered this in our chats, eh? Almost 4 hours of chat/work (yes, that's how productive we both are!) and we came up with something for this group. I guess I will give Kuya Diem the honors to explain this further.
Same with Galenostiel, I have that frustration too. And I will try to keep the flame alive as well.
thanks and i'll keep in touch.
see yah
thisbe.ara: just gradually gaining interest at skimming through other threads.. i never left this site though, just lurking exclusively at one section of this forum that you wouldn't even deemly forethought since mostly people who have quite low-attention-span usually find its own haven (joke).. i simply went out of lucid interval.. haha!
about poetry? nothing really... you know how a person, with no natural inclination to art whatsoever, could in a snap end up like some reincarnated artist when buffered with feelings of either extremities? we'll talk about it hopefully next time.. and oh, Belated Happy Bday! wa gyd ka nangimbita.. tsk!
hahaha pretty term that, evolved. as a species, i believe we've done all the evolving we ought to do but as individuals, evolving is what we ought to strive for.Originally Posted by diem

hai gaiz! I can has post my well thought thoughts here canst I? [ forgive my I can has cheezburger cat talk.. prrr]
I've assailed Mindless thoughts and Scribblings for years now and didn't mind posting here because I don't consider myself a writer. However, after reading back Thisbe.Ara's post -"This thread is for : 2.) istoryans who love to express themselves through writing", I said, hey little bigfoot, number 2 is telling you to step forward and dance.
My undercurrent psychobabbles, I hope, will not do away with how awesome this thread is.[ You see, my grammer sucks and i can't even construct a straight sentence] I won't forgive myself if that will happen. Chucking a toothpick through my jugular will be my resolve.
Psychobabble -1
Everyone doesn't have to be my favorite person. Should I get to know a difficult personality a little bit better or leave "it" alone and observe its actions closely? [I say "it" because I am not sure if "it" is male or female or a dog] Not that I'm surprised to notice that this person or what ever "it" is, is much more complicated than I initially thought. Odd behavior has some reasonable explanations. (Or so I think) Wise fools say, "Accepting the people-[/it/dog/whatever] you don't like will ultimately free you from their influence. Treat others as you would like to be treated and always take the high road."
I always thought that just because you don't agree with someone-[/it/dog/whale/whatever] doesn't mean you can't be friends. Oh well, there are certain special people [/it/dog/whale/dinosaur/whatever] that are always exempted. Sad truth, but I like it.
This shoes I'm wearing just won't cooperate where my feet want to go. Maybe my feet need a new pair. But I don't want to let an awesome sale price steer me into an emotional purchase. These feet are funny! My nose exclaimed.
Wow. Murag na-busy jud ning thread. It's a rare occasion for this thread to be this active, to get a post a day for 4 consecutive days from 4 different posters! Ayos! Welcome, welcome! PLEASE STAY/STICK AROUND!
I have a story to tell.
I believe it was late last year (around August/September of 2006) that while during a casual meeting with Beor and Galadriel, Beor suggested that we (I assumed he meant him, me, iStoryan writers and some iStoryans) could publish the long posts we have here in the thread OR pool the talent we have here in creating a publication.
I was honest-to-goodness excited about the idea and said so but I considered that there wasn't much participation/contribution from other iStoryan writers then. I informed Beor that it might be best if we wait until we see more people active and declarative of their interest in writing. So, we left it at that, hoping for the time will come when there could be enough people here to contribute.
So a year passed, people moved on with their lives and work. Some, like thisbe.ara, moved out of work and landed on a new job. It was during that particular transition that I was able to catch up with her and had a very interesting conversation.
We shared some news of each other and the other iStoryan writers, some views on Life and Writing. Thisbe.ara shared a thought of compiling all the works that have accumulated here in the thread through the years. I relayed to her about Beor's proposal last year. Then thisbe.ara had a spark of inspiration.
She suggested that we could make a book, compiling the contributions of iStoryan Writers under a certain theme and collaborate with the iStoryan artists, for children...
For children... for children... we could make a book... for the children...
Like a burning match to a trail of gunpowder, I caught on to thisbe.ara's idea.
Since from the beginning, the iStoryan family has used this forum and its influence to lead its members in giving what they can to charitable causes. This online community comes together, sharing their time and efforts to those who need it. So far, I have been only sharing my support, moral and financial. Wouldn't it be just great that if I could contribute something from the one thing that I can do well, which is writing. Wouldn't it be just cool if others here can do so as well.
What thisbe.ara was suggesting (which I supported by filling in the blanks) is we iStoryan Writers come together in creating material which the iStoryan Artists would illustrate to be compiled as a book for children which could be published with the help of the iStoryan community in order to be given to the children of public elementary schools, orphanages, and baranggays to read, to enjoy and to learn. The book and its copies could be sold and a part of the earnings could be wholeheartedly given to an appropriate charity.
What children's book do we have in mind? Well it some more verbal exchange and minutes in the YM! to finally decide that we would like a book sharing some of our childhood memories and the values and virtues we learned from it and its not only personal stories but it could be in the form of poetry, articles, thoughts or quotes we had as children and still treasure today as adults!
And the great (and most challenging) part is that the way we write these stories and experiences of our childhood should be the way we wrote as children. It's our adult selves writing in a way that our child selves (and other children) can read and understand!
What do you think? I think its wonderful! Of course we should specific and serious and treat this as an actual project. We are in Conception Stage One. Before we could actually present a proposal to the Right People, what we need NOW is the following:
*Stories of cherished childhood memories or life as a child, written in childspeak. These could be true or fictional accounts, serious or anecdotal. Hopefully has a virtue or valuable moral lesson to share. If anyone has been writing as early as seven years and up, and still kept such writings in a diary, journal, letters! These would be most welcome!
*Poetry, essays, songs and quotes remembered and learned from childhood. Same criteria as above, written in childspeak!
*Contributions should be in English, Filipino, Bisaya or any other Filipino dialect. (For contributions in any local
Filipino dialect, an English translation would be soooooo appreciated! :mrgreen![]()
*Contributions could be at most maximum 1000 words each piece (though less that would be ideal and preferrable) and please send as many contributions you care to share!
If you wish to be part of this, please prepare your contributions, share the news and inform your friends who are also writers (both professional and aspiring) about this, the more the better and merrier!
Please send your contributions to djudilla@yahoo.com and/or thisbe.ara@gmail.com for evaluation. Please do not post your contributions here in the thread for evaluation. There is no set deadline for this but we hope to receive enough contributions before 2008 begins~
We hope to accumulate about 20 to 30 pages of material which we would invite several iStoryan artists to illustrate in order to create a 'sample' that would be presented to the right people to be interested in this project.
We hope that we could make this happen.
