The University of San Carlos, with the Department of Fine Arts-Cinema, presents “Bamboo Gods and Bionic Boys”, a discussion of the history of Philippine independent cinema in the 1960s to 1980s by Andrew Leavold this July 4 at the USC-CAFA Theater, Talamban Campus, 530 PM.

Admission is FREE. This event is open to the general public.


“Bamboo Gods and Bionic Boys” is an historiographical dissection of the concept and development of “independent cinema” in the Philippines by Australian film historian, academic and filmmaker Andrew Leavold.

The history focuses on the early 1960s to late 1980s when independent studios in the country were involved in the global genre export market. Enterprising producers, such as Bobby A. Suarez’s BAS Films, KY Lim of Kinavesa/Silver Star, and Cinex Films were among the most productive of these globalists, grinding out an indeterminable number of mostly self-financed action films about the Vietnam War, urban revenge, jungle action and ninja genres.

I'm just wondering if anyone here is a member of Binisaya? Naa sila mga Indie Films like Biyernes-Biyernes. Naa pd ko nakit.an na Indie Film ato sa Youtube entitled "Uwan-Init Pista sa Langit" but I'm not sure kung sa Binisaya pd 2. Just asking kaay naa ko iask about sa ila location gd gshootan.
