MAVERICKS: Mavericks Roster
mao ra jpn tanan, si Rudy Fernandez ray nadugang..
Agent: Mavs still want DeShawn Stevenson
From the moment the team hoisted the Larry O'Brien Trophy, Dallas Mavericks president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson has consistently stated his desire to bring all the boys back for another title run. That message is consistent with what Nelson has told the players' agents, too.
Mark Bartelstein, agent for down-and-dirty shooting guard DeShawn Stevenson, who proved himself as being resilient, a hard-edged defender and quite capable of draining big 3-pointers on a championship squad, said he spoke to Nelson after the Mavs traded for shooting guard Rudy Fernandez on draft night, a move that, on the surface, said good-bye to Stevenson, an unrestricted free agent.
"I spoke to Donnie after the trade and he said that's not the case at all," Bartelstein said. "He made it very clear that he's somebody they want back."
(All talks between teams, players and agents ceased on July 1 when the collective bargaining agreement expired and the lockout started)
The trade for Fernandez put the number of players on the Mavs' 15-man roster at 16. It boosted the number of shooting guards on the roster to five and those who can play the position to seven. Six players on the roster are free agents, including Bartelstein client Brian Cardinal.
Dallas has close to $62 million locked up in players under contract for 2011-12. They dearly want to re-sign free agents Tyson Chandler (who won't come cheaply) and Caron Butler, with J.J. Barea and Stevenson also having increased their value with strong postseasons.
And, of course, no one knows what the salary cap parameters will be once a new collective bargaining agreement is enacted.
So the question regarding Stevenson has never really if the Mavs want to re-sign him, but rather can they afford to?
They 11-year veteran earned $4.15 million last season, and before the playoffs started it would have been a decent bet that Stevenson would not match or exceed that amount on the open market. However, his defensive tenacity going up against Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James, and coolness in burying 39.7 percent from 3-point range in the playoffs (not to mention his professional demeanor throughout the season when he could have whined -- and with reason) will supply the 30-year-old will suitors once free agency begins.
"No question," Bartelstein said, while acknowledging it is impossible to determine a market during the lockout. "He would love to be back in Dallas and defend the title."
Like Nelson said, the Mavs would love to bring them all back. Unfortunately, that will be near impossible.
Someone will have to go, and a crowded shooting guard position would seem the first place to look.

Germany Sky High with Nowitzki Aboard
There is not a more significant photo circulating in Germany right now than the national team picture just taken by the Germany Basketball Federation.
In it is a squad full of players, most who are grinning ear to ear.
Dirk Nowitzki, wearing number 14 on his Deutschland jersey, is among them.
The Dallas Mavericks superstar has joined the national side with two weeks remaining in the preparations and will no doubt be in the starting line-up when Germany go up against Israel in their EuroBasket Group B opener on August 31 in Siauliai.
While coach Dirk Bauermann isn't smiling, he is no doubt feeling very good about the presence of both Nowitzki and Los Angeles Clippers center Chris Kaman, two players he hasn't had in his squad since the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Kaman has also travelled to Germany this week.
The national team players have been in impressive form but now they have another bounce in their step.
With Nowitzki, they know they're in the presence of greatness.
"The workouts are going very well," Bauermann said ahead of the Beko Supercup in Bamberg.
"All the players are fit and we're delighted that it starts on Friday with the games."
When the tournament tips off on Friday, Greece will take on Turkey with Germany and Belgium following in the nightcap.
On Saturday, Turkey will square off against the Belgians and Germany will meet the Greeks in the second game.
On Sunday, Belgium are to battle Greece and Germany will clash with Turkey.
Germany squad: Robin Benzing, Per Günther, Steffen Hamann, Johannes Herber, Jan-Hendrik Jagla, Chris Kaman, Dirk Nowitzki, Tim Ohlbrecht, Tibor Pleiss, Heiko Schaffartzik, Sven Schultze, Philipp Schwethelm, Lucca Staiger and Konrad Wysocki.

Leaving Dallas? Rudy Fernandez reportedly agrees to overseas deal
Although he's on the current roster, Rudy Fernandez may never play for the Dallas Mavericks.
According to a Monday report by Sportando.net , Fernandez has agreed to a four-year contract with Real Madrid that will begin after the 2011-2012 NBA season. However, because of the lockout there is no guarantee that there will be a 2011-2012 NBA season.
The Spanish sports Web site included that Fernandez will receive $4.3 million per season from the La Liga club.
Hoopshype.com reported Monday that the deal was close but not done.
“Rudy is very committed to Dallas,” according to the site's source. “The contract he’s about to sign means that Real Madrid (is) his choice in Europe if he chooses to stay in Europe, but he’s not closing the door on a future in the NBA with Dallas after this year.”
During this year's NBA Draft on June 23, the Mavericks traded their 26th and 57th pick to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for the 26-year-old shooting guard.
Fernandez, a member of the Spanish national team, wasn’t happy with his role in Portland. He threatened to skip the Blazers’ training camp last summer and requested to be released from his contract.
In 218 career games with Portland, Fernandez averaged 9.1 points.

"WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS"
I've paid my dues
Time after time
I've done my sentence
But committed no crime
And bad mistakes
I've made a few
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face
But I've come through
(And we mean to go on and on and on and on)
We are the champions my friend
And we'll keep on fightin' till the end
We are the champions, We are the champions
No time for losers 'cause we are the champions
Of the world
I've taken my bows
And my curtain calls
You brought me fame and fortune and everything that
goes with it
I thank you all
But it's been no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race
And I ain't gonna lose
We are the champions my friend
And we'll keep on fighting till the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'cause we are the champions
Of the WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRLLLLD!
We are the champions my friend
And we'll keep on fighting till the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'cause we are the champions.
