It is true USC School of Engineering has higher tuition fee of all engineering schools in Cebu. Based on the data tuition fees of CIT-U and USJR for engineering are about P25,000 to P30,000 per semester while at USC TC is about P35,000 to P45,000 per semester. There will be tuition fee increase in coming years with the implementation of K12. Its a matter of choice for the students and parents anyway its free market and democratic here in the Phils.
The high tuition fees at USC -TC is paid off and accounted for by the state-of-the-art facilities, laboratories, air-conditioned class rooms, seminar and audio-visual rooms, computerized, digital, latest instruments, equipment and machines (e.g. CNC milling) of the Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Computer Eng'g and Industrial engineering laboratories and machine shop. The faculty of the different engineering programs have masters degree from top universities in the Phils. (UP, DLSU, Ateneo de Manila) and Doctorate degree or PhD from international universities in Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Australia and Singapore. Visiting professors from US, UK, Australia, Japan, South Korea and Singapore are invited every year to conduct specialized lectures, seminars and workshops to faculty and graduate students.
USC Talamban campus is one of largest university campus in the Phils. covering 120 hectares which is undergoing infrastructure development and envisioned to be a Univer-City campus with the largest university Library and Learning Center, university Stadium which are newly built. An Olympic standard sports facilities, state-of-the-art buildings for School of Engineering and School of Science will be built in the next 5 years. The USC Talamban campus upper portion houses separate buildings of the School of Engineering (new building), School of Science (new building), School of Architecture, Fine Arts & Design, School of Liberal Arts, Science & Math Education and School of Health Care Professions. Wide Roads with spacious pedestrian lanes, bicycle lanes and underground cables for utilities and communication lines are built and provided for the safety, convenience of the students. All buildings have separate power back-up generators, water pump sub-station, drainage, storm retention ponds and sewerage treatment system are being built. Many would say "depende sa esstudyante ug pag graduate pareha ra trabaho ug suweldo". Its right it depends on the students themselves, their attitude, intelligence, aptitude, efforts and academic performance especially with the Outcome Based Education (OBE) approach. That is why at USC TC we have an elimination process wherein with 100 students in first year it will be reduced to 50 or less students in third year to ensure Quality Control and maintaining the Academic Standards. We candidly advised students who failed in math, chemistry, physics, english and introductory engineering subjects to shift to other courses and many also decide to transfer to other schools.
At USC TC the teachers are given the prerogative to fail half of the class even in the finals. That is why a grade of 2.5 (80%) is a respectable grade in USC-TC while 3.0 (75%) is a normal grade of the majority. At USC TC our priority is Quality First with Reasonable Quantity.
