i wanna get a uv filter from ryan. is this needed for a goldfish tank?
If ur planning to put ur goldfish tank in a bright place (indirect/direct sunlight or a lot of artificial lighting) then you will probably have green water.
You can try a sort of biological control for green water. Put daphnia in a breeders net away from the goldfishes ( and I mean AWAY, those huge mouths can suck up anything in a 3 inch radius)
The daphnia will eat the suspended green algae so make sure there is ample water circulation for them to feed on. If the daphnia get too crowded, feed some of them to the fishes. This will not completely remove the green water but at least it will clear the water up a bit.
And UV sterilizers are expensive ( and dangerous ).
