    >Fact: MP Warriors is owned by Manny Pacquaio. He played during the first day and scored 2 points. He however, did not play on the second day and was a no-show at the gym. His bro Bobby however, scored 10 pts. and was the star of the show.

    >MP Gensan Warriors logo shows an icon in red doing a left hook (boxing term)

    >Basketball clinic was held at the apopong gym which was open air and donated by the man himself, Manny Pacquaio. There were about 36 attendees ranging from 5yrs to 14 yr old boys.
The Clinic was done by Butch Antonio and Noli Eala was there as well to close this event at 12:30pm

Hmmmm....unsa paman ha..... I'll ask Noli later where and when the footage will be shown

Basketball: Manila meets Taguig in Liga Leg Finals

    STANDINGS

    Manila Capitals 3-0

    Harbour Centre-Taguig Batang Global 1-2

    Smart-Pampanga Buddies 1-2

    MP Warriors of GenSan 1-2

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Jan. 24 (PNA) -- The Manila Capitals and Harbour Centre-Taguig Batang Global arranged a championship showdown by crushing separate opponents on the final day of elims of the Pampanga Leg of the 2009 Smart Liga Pilipinas Conference II at the University of the Assumption here Friday night.

The Capitals of Coach Junel Mendiola frustrated the host Smart-Pampanga Buddies of Coach Aric del Rosario, 79-75, while the Batang Global of Mayor Freddie R. Tinga and Coach Bert Flores powdered the MP Warriors of General Santos of Manny Pacquiao and Coach Ramon Pido, 86-56.

A three-way tie ensued among Taguig, Pampanga and GenSan, all with 1-2 win-loss cards. The Batang Global claimed the second finals berth, thanks to their superior FIBA quotient.

The undefeated Capitals easily took the first seat and an additional two Liga Tour Points for sweeping the preliminary round, including an 88-82 conquest of the Batang Global last Wednesday.

Leo Avenido canned four straight free throws to tie the game for the last time, 65-65. Harold Sta. Cruz then pushed Manila on top for good with a jump hook over three defenders with 4:22 to go, 67-65.

Ronnie Zagala and Avenido then proceeded to pad the Capitals’ lead via the free throw line, erecting an unassailable 78-71 edge with still a minute to go. The Manila defense also went to work, forcing a slew of Pampanga turnovers.

It was a sorry loss for the Buddies who controlled the first three-and-a-half periods, at one point leading by as much as 20 markers in the second canto, 33-13.

Zagala topped Manila with 22, eight in the final period. Avenido scored 10 of his 14 points also in the final period. Alwin Espiritu and Khiel Misa paced the Buddies with 11 markers each.

In the first game, the Batang Global barged into the win column in grand fashion with the easy rout of the Warriors. Taguig entered the game needing to win by more than 10 points for them to stay in the hunt for a championship slot.

With the first half of the deal accomplished, all that was left for Taguig was to cheer for a Manila victory in the main game in order to sneak into the leg finals after losing their first two games in the tournament backed by Smart Communications, Air 21, Accel, Burlington, Molten, Victory Liner and Nature’s Spring and sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).

Taguig led all the way, never allowing the Warriors to threaten by maintaining the double-digit advantage. Edrick Ferrer converted a miracle shot from behind the half-court line at the buzzer to give Taguig the halftime lead, 46-32. From there it was an all-Taguig show.

Overall, the defense forced the Warriors to shoot a dismal 22 out of 68 from the field. Taguig was shooting far better (35/66) and had more rebounds (45-39) and assists (23-11).

Marvin Ortiguerra topped the Batang Global with 23 points, followed by Erwin Sta. Maria with 13. No Warrior scored in twin digits with Jonjon Gonzaga and Bob Cozy Ilanga accounting for nine points each.

    How They Scored:

    First Game:

    TAGUIG (86) – Ortiguerra 23, Sta. Maria 17, Ferrer 11, Burtscher 10, Gamboa 8, Gatumbato 6, Sierra 5, Adolfo 2, Magtulis 2, Marquez 2, Malabanan 0, Reguera 0.

    GENERAL SANTOS (56) – Gonzaga 9, Ilanga 9, Mendoza 8, Ramos 8, Callo 8, Omandam 4, Medalla 3, Locsin 2, Mejorada 2, Coronado 2, Farochillen 1, Sagad 0, B. Pacquiao 0, Recustodio 0.

    Period Scores: 23-10, 46-32, 60-46, 86-56.

    Second Game:

    MANILA (79) – Zagala 22, Avenido 14, Sanders 12, Bajar 10, Alfad 7, Sta. Cruz 7, Santiago 5, Waters 2, Moody 0, Del Rosario 0, Robles 0, Navarro 0, Sese 0, Lim 0.

Capitals rule Liga leg in Pampanga

SAN FERNANDO. – The Manila Capitals ruled the Pampanga Leg of the 2009 Smart Liga Pilipinas Conference II Saturday night, completing a four-game sweep by humbling Harbour Centre-Taguig Batang Global 97-82 at the University of the Assumption gym here.

The Capitals, steered to victory by coach Junel Mendiola, duplicated the feat of the Trace-Laguna Stallions who also swept last year’s GenSan Leg. Both teams now share the Liga Tour Points lead with 15 each.

From a 78-all count, standoff, the Capitals exploded for 13 unanswered points behind Leo Avenido, Jeff Sanders and Ronnie Zagala and took a 91-78 lead with 2:16 left.

Three of those 13 points was scored from the line by Avenido on technical fouls slapped on the Taguig bench for excessive complaining.

Avenido, who was re-signed by the Coca Cola Tigers in the PBA after his great play in Liga, capped his week-long brilliance with 36 points and the leg Most Valuable Player trophy. Zagala was just as hot with 24 points, while Marvin Ortiguerra and Edrick Ferrer paced Taguig with 17 and 14 points, respectively.

Manny Pacquiao’s MP Warriors of GenSan finished third at the expense of the host Smart-Pampanga Buddies 71-69, thanks to a miraculous shot by guard Bob Cozy Ilanga with three-tenths of a second remaining. Ilanga drove down the baseline towards the goal, took off and then fired an awkward shot against two defenders that surprisingly swished through the net.

Ilanga had given the Warriors a 69-67 lead with a tip-in of a Weng Farochillen miss with 60 ticks left. Emmerson Oreta tied the game for the last time with two free throws at the 24.7 second mark.

Next week, it will be the turn of the Ilocos Sur Bravehearts and Edding-Zanorte Babami to host the next leg on Jan. 28 to 31. Defending champion M. Lhuillier-Cebu Ninos, Pampanga and Laguna travel to Ilocos Sur while the Misamis Oriental Meteors, Capitals and Batang Global will be Zanorte’s guests.
