(we vacationed in australia..my aunt n her husband were based in oz..), they made pasta from tomatoes.. not canned, but whole tomatoes.. my mom still makes it that way.. dli pud xa marinara kai ang spag is visibly pale yellow ang color, dli mu red tungod sa sauce.. like oily jd ang sauce then mu orange tungod sa juice sa tomatoes.. my mom makes this rili well.. and for some odd reason, dli ko kakuha sa timpla! hehe..

Interesting , looks like you grew up with pasta... yes i've heard of giada, if you plan to go to italy, other than the urban areas , try to go to the countryside thats where the flavor is, good food and wine, Tuscany,Umbria etc....or for history Siena, Perugia, Assisi and offcourse the more urban areas.. all together its quite a food experience
