He was chosen as one of our senators,
a Filipino senator,
maybe he had shortcomings in making flamboyant speeches.
but I guess his intentions and what he stands for does what matters the most.
One of those is to serve us.

^ But what exactly does he stand for? Other than banging the anti-RH bill drum all I've heard from his corner for the past few weeks is denial, contradiction and attack when all that was required was an earnest apology. His support of the double-jeopardy libel provisions in the (on hold) cyber-crime law is of great concern too given his self-inflicted woes. Also I'm really wondering how somebody with a showbiz background can claim ignorance of intellectual property rights and attribution. He is a senator and speech making is part of his profession; his speech was recorded and broadcast and he had plenty of opportunity to research and double-check the material, ethics and legality. Did a desire for a flashy speech trump commonsense? Did he really think nobody would notice?
Well he was chosen,
and factually we are a democratic country,
a law is passed for the pleasure of the majority and I think
that majority are the main body who placed him in office.
mao lagi na.. mo dagan2 og pag ka government official nya way talent, pati pag speech way ma sulti nga original...
@tirong-say: Democracy doesn't excuse incompetence. It's not enough to go through the motions of democracy, the substance of democracy must exist as well. The will of the people should be assumed to be a better and more prosperous life. So a system that doesn't deliver a better life means the will of the voters has been corrupted and such country can never be considered a real democracy.
We are the only country that practices a plurality-rule electoral system, it's arguable if this can be considered democratic as we've never had a single President since Marcos who was elected by the majority of the population. Just to give you an example, if France practiced the same plurality-rule system, far-right pro-nazi Jean Marie Le Pen would now be the President of France. The reason no other country uses this system is because it's a defective system.
Sotto sees immediate dismissal of ethics complaint vs him
KIMBERLY JANE TAN, GMA News November 19, 2012 1:37pm
Senate Majority Floor Leader Vicente Sotto III on Monday said that he is positive the Senate ethics committee will immediately dismiss the complaint made against him for alleged plagiarism.
Sotto said that after he presents his answer to the allegations made against him, the members of the Senate ethics committee will dismiss the complaint right away.
"I'm very confident that it will not even reach into that [voting]," he told reporters after a weekly forum at the Diamond Hotel on Monday.
"Siguradong dun palang sa pagpepresenta at pagsagot mo they can already decide there once and for all. Madali yun," he added.
Last week, a group of bloggers and university professors filed an ethics complaint against Sotto, saying he should be disciplined by the Senate for allegedly plagiarizing works by other authors in his speeches against the controversial Reproductive Health bill.
A lawyer and another group, meanwhile, asked the same Senate panel to dismiss the ethics complaint against Sotto.
But Sotto said the complaint would not progress since, as recorded in the Senate journal, he stated in his speeches that he was not claiming ownership of any material he used.
"Ang sagot lang dun ibigay mo ang journal ng Senate. Kung yung mga member ng ethics committee wala during the time I delivered my speech just give them a copy of [the Senate] journal," he said.
He also reiterated that the copy being used by his detractors is just a draft of his speech.
"That's a piece of paper unless it comes from the journal of the Senate or I delivered it in my speech that is not my speech kaya yun lang sagot na sa committee on ethics," he said.
He likewise reminded the complainants of what matters can only be tackled by the panel.
"They should read the rules of the Senate concerning the committee on ethics and what can be taken up in the committee on ethics," he said.
According to Rule X Section 13 of the Senate rules, the ethics panel may take up "all matters relating to the conduct, rights, privileges, safety, dignity, integrity and reputation of the Senate and its members."
"Aral pa naman sila ako'y taga-tabi-tabi lang. Musikero lang ako sila napakatatalino nila bakit di nila binabasa yun," said the senator, who chairs the Senate committee on rules.
Senate Minority Floor Leader Alan Peter Cayetano, on the other hand, is the chair of the ethics committee.
But Sotto said he was not worried with the fact that the head of the panel is the brother of the RH bill co-sponsor in the Senate.
"No I have no apprehensions [about that]," he said.
He likewise said that even if the matter comes into a vote, he would abstain. Sotto is an ex-officio member of the panel.
"Sigurado...ni hindi ako aattend nun," he said.
Cayetano has said that they will still have to establish their rules before they can hold a hearing on the complaint.
Rule XXXIV Section 97 of the Senate rules says that the Senate upon the recommendation of the ethics committee may "punish any member for disorderly behavior and, with the concurrence of two-thirds of the entire membership, suspend or expel a member." — BM, GMA News

For LoL.. He really stoop down to the lowest form of ethics and intelligence.."Aral pa naman sila ako'y taga-tabi-tabi lang. Musikero lang ako sila napakatatalino nila bakit di nila binabasa yun," said the senator, who chairs the Senate committee on rules.
The crux of his defense seems to be that he is claiming that he never claimed ownership of the Kennedy speech, but as a poster on Yahoo commented... when making the speech he is talking in the first-person, using the word "I" so that coupled with the complete absence of attribution until exposed by the media puts him on very shaky ground in my opinion. Let us watch and see how "ethical" the ethics committee actually is.
