An unrestricted free agent is free to sign with any team, but a restricted free agent is subject to his current team's Right of First Refusal, meaning that the player can be signed to an offer sheet by another team, but his current club reserves the right to match the offer and keep the player. An offer sheet is a contract offer of at least 2 years made to a restricted free agent. The player's current club has 15 days to match the offer or loses the player to the new team.
Antoine Walker in gambling trouble
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Former NBA star Antoine Walker is facing criminal charges over $822,500 in gambling debts to three Las Vegas casinos.
Documents provided Tuesday by the Clark County district attorney accuse the 32-year-old Walker of three felony counts of writing bad checks. Prosecutors say he failed to make good on 10 checks totaling $1 million written to Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood and the Red Rock Resort.
Walker's agent and a lawyer in Las Vegas didn't immediately respond Tuesday to messages.
Prosecutor Bernie Zadrowski told the Las Vegas Sun that Walker repaid $178,000 of the debts incurred last July to January.
Walker last played for the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2008. He was an All-Star with the Boston Celtics and won an NBA championship in 2006 with the Miami Heat.

Pistons Aren't Interested In Stackhouse
The Pistons aren't among the teams interested in free-agent swingman Jerry Stackhouse.
Detroit is looking to get younger and is in need of a big man.
"Hey, I would have loved (going back to Detroit)," Stackhouse told The Detroit News. "But I don't think they were interested. They are moving in a different direction. They wanted younger. You know I had a list of teams who were interested in me and I was hoping Detroit would be one of them, but they are more in position to want to bring in the young guys and let them play rather than contending."
Stackhouse said he wants to play next season, and he'll never forget his time in Detroit.
"I wanted to return because of the relationship with the city and the people and the way they interacted with me," he said. "I think that was the biggest thing.
"People still remember me for what I did in Detroit because this is where I had the highlight of my abilities. I even felt very honored when I made the all-time Piston team as a player and all that stuff. That meant a lot to me."
