as far as I know, 7-pin socket accepts 4-pin S-video plug.

Video out to an Svidieo or RCA TV isnt really that bad as long as you have a good video card or you configure the card properly.

Its ok for watching movies but terrible for being used as a secondary display.

Heres a diagram to help you out...

Connectors 1,2,3 and 4 are located on the same area... a 4-pin Svideo plug will fit into a 7 pin Svideo socket. No need for adapters.
okay thanks kaayo sa mga advice guys.. il take it all into consideration..

layo na kaayo imong rambling about quality and resolution sa CRT vs LCD... wala lagi ni question ana'.
Mahalinan na ka sa imong expretise anang LCD TV nimo...

Going back to what u said before... and I quote,....
The issue is NOT ABOUT QUALITY... the issue Is about helping him solve his problem. He just wants to connect his laptop to the tv for crying out loud...

In the first place, u didnt even teach him how to do it... Second... u just told him to buy an LCD TV because videos on CRT suck for you.

Hatagan tika ug mas detailed nga analogy...

Lets say after ur work as a salesman sa Samsung..u work part time at a PC Shop.. PCX sa SM dapit..... a customer goes to the store and says...

"can u help me fix this Pentium 4 Desktop...My OS got corrupted and I need a reinstall."

To that you would say... bati na' ang P4... upgrade nalang ug Core 2 Duo.. nindot kaayo... ayaw nalang i-reinstall imong OS... usik usik lang ka...

Kasabot na ka ron? U arent really solving the persons problems... ur just making things more complicated from what he wanted to do...

Ok ra unta if you said.... " U can connect ur laptop to the TV via S-Video cable.." If you want better video quality.. you could buy an LCD TV, Projector or what have you...

Ang imoha kay... "ayaw nalang ug suway.. bati lagi na'.. usik usik lang ka..." Unya naa naman syay CRT TV beh... unsaon man na' nimo.. ilabay?

What ur doing is throwing money at the problem.. not really fixing it... naay sayon nga solution.. mangita gyud ug lisod... what the heck!
    I don't sell LCD TV's

    But if you want one...

GET it outside the country....... specifically USA..... its the cheapest.....
half the price in SM or AYALA.

    I only showed the options....

I DIDN'T SAY IT CAN'T BE DONE.... I only said the image won't be good.....

The laptop gives you 1280 X 800 resolution........... going down to 640 X 480... Its not like anything what you see with 1280 X 800.

@ajol bai, grabeh ra pud kaayo nang suggestion to get an LCD TV. You're spending too much on that. I have also a laptop and tried viewing it on a 21 inch Sony Vega. Yeah the quality sucks when viewing your desktop pero if you try vewing movies, its pretty decent ra bro.

Spending money for a LCD TV is good if you have the money pero as I see in the Threadmasters mind, I think he just wants to know how to connect to a TV and nothing more.

Correct ka dyan... I've also tried doing this before (with laptop and desktop (nvidia and ati))

As I said.. not good for secondary display, "okay" for watching movies, downloaded tv shows in DivX (which are usually in 640 x 352 resolution for widescreen and 640x480 for things like Anime Shows)

What that means bro ajol is.... mostly 90% (or more) of the content you'll be watching won't even need an LCD TV's extra pixels. Your LCD TV will most of the time be scaling those pixels to fit it at a higher res...

You seldom have 1080i, 1080p videos available unless u download/watch those Discovery Channel HD, NBA HD or or other HDTV channels abroad.

The normal 350Mb (30minute episode) download will play fine on current CRT TV sets... its not as terrible and as doom and gloom as ajol is describing.

    enough with this crapfest!

Topic creator has already got the answer!

Yes, you only need a cheap four-pin S-video cable, even if it has 7 pins on the laptop. Tried it myself. If the TV is big enough (anything above 15!), the movies are actually watchable. Subtitles/any text will be a problem though...

And then some people here have started to make some useless argument about video quality when the TC isn't asking for it. Besides, what harm could be done in buying a cable? It's dirt cheap. Unless he really has an LCD tv or is willing to buy one...

ajol, you COULD have answered his question directly THEN suggest an LCD tv for better quality. TC probably got the wrong idea at first that his quick fix (s-video cable) wouldn't work.

again HD content can be found.... its growing everyday.....

As to watching in on CRT tv...... Divx or 350mb episodes..... better watch it on your laptop screen....

    @ ajol

You're totally missing the point ... and this is already wayyy off topic

If I give you my conterpoints regarding availability of HDTV videos TODAY.. you wouldnt be able to understand.
(point being... why buy something today especially if the prices are still high? Why not buy it when daghan na sources available and the price goes down na) And to your point of importing from the USA... maybe you heard of TAXES and Package size restrictions sa Airline..

There's also such things as Viewing Angle and Brightness/Contrast Ratio on the Laptop

... know what ..This is what I really don't understand

.... first you advise the TC to get an LCD TV (and no.. you didnt give him options like you said you did.)
... then you advise him to just watch it on his laptop
.. .then you advise him to burn it nalang on a DVD (to watch on the CRT TV)
.. then you go rambling about resolution and quality

... your arguments make total nonsense ... like I said.. .you answered all the other questions except the one he was asking. Der FUHRER is right... u just like to hijack threads and show how tech savvy you are.

    @Der FuHRER...

I know how you feel.. heheh

Maybe he just likes to argue for arguments sake.

You have to admit his ability to talk a topic to death and still come up with silly unrelated points though... hehe

Mods better close this already... problem solved na... nothing to see here.. move along..
