ANTI-narcotics agents on Tuesday arrested two Chinese nationals during a buy-bust operation in Quezon City, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said.
PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo Cacdac Jr. said that seven kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, and ecstacy tablets, a party drug, were confiscated from Qiao Wen Jiang, alias Boy Intsik, 37, from Fujian, China; and Xiao Xia Chai, 37, a female. Both are residents of No. 127 Mayon Street, Quezon City.
“The shabu, placed inside resealable plastic bags, has an estimated street value of P35 million pesos, while the ecstacy tablets contained in four plastic sachets are worth P2 million,” Cacdac said.
Shortly before midnight, a drug transaction was hatched between the suspects and a PDEA undercover agent who posed as buyer and agreed to meet in front of a bar grill along Timog Avenue, Quezon City.
Upon a pre-arranged signal, agents of PDEA Regional Office-National Capital Region (PDEA RO-NCR) immediately pounced on the suspects after they handed-over the illegal drugs to the poseur-buyer. Also confiscated from the duo was a black Mitsubishi Montero with plate number TOK-248.
“We believed that the suspects, who neither speak English or Tagalog, or willfully done on purpose, are a couple. They could also be members of a transnational organized drug syndicate operating in the country,” Cacdac said.
The suspects will be charged for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. They are presently under the custody of PDEA RO-NCR. (SDR/Sunnex)
