I beg to disagree. If you give them a chance to improve, do you think they will refuse because they are contented with playing mahjong or drinking spirits. Cmon, thats why they are playing mahjong because they want more money. They want to improve.

There are three important people in the riles section of Tondo (Tondo na, Riles pa). Their names are Trinidad Herrera and David Balondo and Fred Repono. Talk to them for the real score.
Can anybody tell me What was the difinete definition of Quality of Life?.......coz for me I didn't experience a good quality of living.....for my 24 yrs of living here in the Phillippines.....or this world I should say.....
kanang
mka tog ka ug tarong ig gabii
wa kay utang
kaon 3x per day
mka skul
mka graduate ug skul
mka work
ma promote
magpa work
hihihi
In simple terms, Quality of life is what surrounds you.
Examples here in the Phils.:
+ value of money = pila man ka taw maka kaon sa usa ka adlaw? pila man ang sweldo ma dawat para e palit ug pagkaon ma igo pa kaha na e buhi sa imong pamilya? naa pa ba hakay ma save para ug naay ma sakit e gasto ug tambal? ang mga palaliton (basic commodities like food, shelter, clothing etc) affordable ba? in the US, household income is better than us mau na mag basic minimum wage nila (depends which state) ex. $15/hr ilang ma kuha.. multiply by 8 hrs per day time 5 days = $600 per week sila ug mu palit sila ug pag kaon didtos Walmart example lang gasto ka worth $30 pag kaon balig 2 ka semana na nimo na nga allocation.. ingon ana ang value of money sa America.
+ security = is it safe now to walk outside your home? tan aw sa mga balita sayos buntag they will deliver you the worst news eg. naay gi rape (usahay mga animal amahan mo unay sa mga anak), gitulis, kidnapping/carnapping etc. dili ma ihap sa atong kamot and mga kremin taga adlaw plus naa pa gyud problems sa government unsaon nalang nato pag prioritize mga problem nga angay gyud untang unahon. As amerika ang mga taw didto mo respect sa mga opisyal, policeman ect dre diri wala ta respito then some of the officials and policemen ang mau pa gyud mag una una mau na lisud kaayo i usab and atong mga kina iya (attitude) towards other Filipinos unayon pa ta.. atay kaayo walay kasigurohan atong kinabuhi.
Kana ra akong duha ka example pero naay pay daghan mau na we will ask ourselves again "What is the quality of life for Filipinos?" halus wala gyud this is a common ground maski pa dato ka or pobre ka pero ug dato ka arang2x kay maka sustain man kas value of money kay daghan man ka cash then for security if dato ka maybe maka avoid ka instead mag lakaw ka or mag sakays jeep naa kay sakyanan imoha therefore, layu kas kadautan pero pwede ka matulis kay ingon ani gyud ang sitwasyon dres pinas... daghang dautan elemento because sa kagutom, ka pobre or diba ka kulang sa education.. pait kaayo nato palandungon nga atong mga kauban nga Filipinos mau ni ilang sitwasyon mag pasalamat ta gi pa eskwela tas atong ginikanan, nag trabaho pata karon (unemployement rate is too high) mau na mangita tag pa agi nga ma tarung atong future ilabinas next generations.. mag tabanganay ta one purpose to help each other! Live Life Filipinos! I'm proud to be brown and bisaya! Peace out!
Walay mo sweldo ug $ 15 ang oras sa US bai ..... unless ur a degree holder , with more than 10 + years experience ...unless u are talking about US states that has a HIGH COST of LIVING , kana $ 15 oras nimo is balewala ra na .
Daghan man pod homeless and unemployed sa US , nakalahi lang is the govt gi share nila ang KURAKOT sa GOBYERNO in terms of benefits . Mao na ang naka advantage ... u earn dollars , u spend dollars man pod . Pero ug mo ingon ka ug u earn dollars and spend in pesos , lahi nana siya .

That's why I quote "some" state will have $15 or maybe as low as $5.. but what I'm trying to say is the value of money (the power of the consumers to buy) compared here in the Phils. what is cosumer index here? gamay kaayo. Quality of life ra akong gi describe but if you talk about governemnt corruption, benefits etc that's another story.. I'm trying to explain and share what is my defination of "Quality of Life"
Mahibong ra man pod ta gud mo example ka ug $ 15 an hour like it is very common bitaw bai . If you make $ 15 an hour sa US as a fulltime employee and permanent to the company , bai u are considered more than an average citizen in terms of livelihood in states that has low cost of living , but if ur in CA or NY .... kulang ra na siya .
I would say .... meet ta sa $ 8 an hour , now that is realsitic and common bisan asa ka sa US . It will match the wage u make in the Philippines in terms of cost of living because you earn dollars , you spend dollars . If imo gi exchange rate in pesos of course dako kaau just like comparing ur money to Mexico . Dako gyud paminawon .

Determinants of quality of life
The nine quality-of-life factors, and the indicators used
to represent these factors, are:

A number of other variables were also investigated but,
in line with fi ndings in the literature, had no impact in
this multivariate framework. These were: education levels,
the rate of real gdp growth and income inequality
(Gini coeffi cient). Studies have often found at most a
small correlation between education and life satisfaction,
over and above any impact that education has on
incomes and health, and possibly other variables such
as the extent of political freedom. A recent report by the
ilo found that an indicator of schooling and training
was actually inversely related to wellbeing when jobs are
poorly attuned to people’s needs and aspirations.
In the Economist Report the Philippines rank No. 44 out of 110 countries.
Rank 1st is Ireland, Switzerland 2nd and Norway 3rd.
The Philippines ranked 4th highest among S.E. countries:
Singapore ranked 11th, Malaysia 37th, Thailand 42. This is quite a remarkable achievement for our country considering our estimated GDP per Capita (At Purchasing Power Parity) is only at $4,580 per annum vs. $32,530 for Sing., $10,450 for Malaysia and $8,140 for Thailand.
As they say it's not all about the money:
The role of income
The aim is to supplement not supplant real gdp. We
fi nd that gdp per person explains more than 50% of
the inter-country variation in life satisfaction, and the
estimated relationship is linear. Surveys show that even
in rich countries people with higher incomes are more
satisfi ed with life than those with lower incomes. In 24
out of 28 countries surveyed by Eurobarometer, material
wellbeing is identifi ed as the most important criterion
for life satisfaction.
However, over several decades there has been only
a very modest upward trend in average life-satisfaction
scores in developed nations, whereas average income has
grown substantially. There is no evidence for an explanation
sometimes proffered for the apparent paradox of
increasing incomes and stagnant life-satisfaction scores:
the idea that an increase in someone’s income causes
envy and reduces the welfare and satisfaction of others.
In our estimates, the level of income inequality had no
impact on levels of life satisfaction.
Life satisfaction is primarily determined by absolute, rather than relative,
status (related to states of mind and aspirations).
The explanation is that there are factors associated
with modernisation that, in part, offset its positive impact.
A concomitant breakdown of traditional institutions
is manifested in the decline of religiosity and of
trade unions; a marked rise in various social pathologies
(crime, and drug and alcohol addiction); a decline in
political participation and of trust in public authority;
and the erosion of the institutions of family and marriage.
In personal terms, this has also been manifested
in increased general uncertainty and an obsession with
personal risk. These phenomena have accompanied
rising incomes and expanded individual choice (both
of which are highly valued). However, stable family life
and community are also highly valued and these have
undergone a severe erosion.
