the necessity and dependency on US troops to defend our sovereignty is at the same time real and artificial.
"real", because the necessity is all too apparent as we do not have a strong standing army to counter any threat from other countries, especially against china.
"artificial", because this dependency is historic in nature and should not be seen only through a military aspect, but through a holistic approach (military, economic, cultural) as suggested by the
dependency theory. the majority of the world's nations suffering from underdevelopment, and even in a smaller scale such as the underdeveloped rural areas inside most countries, are a testament to this.
by seeing that the necessity is "real" and stopping there, we maintain and endorse a status quo worldview that limits what we can do to change our status and the status of the rest of underdeveloped countries, along the lines that is "permitted" by the hegemonic nation that oversees us.
