Of course before a project is began there would always be feasibility studies which would include research on the ideal site (usually the narrowest point to lessen cost), studies regarding the depth of the sea, stability of the area, etc...

At least the RDC-7 has thought of such project, it will always be realized somehow later... Even the construction of the second mactan bridge which was conceived in the late 80s was at first deemed impossible and impractical...

Yes, I'm all for development but not at ridiculous cost.
    OT:

Impractical for the national government (during Ramos' time) to spend for Subic International Airport on the other side, and now Clark International Airport to the North... and even today, the NAIA3 Terminal has not been put to use.... Far more impractical even to focus development on the international port in Subic when there's an international port in Batangas and in Manila...

Even the airport in General Santos City and its international port which came first before Clark and Subic were overtaken because as expected our National leaders are always biased for Luzon... The city was envisioned as a center of trade and commerce considering its strategic location in the South but now Subic wants to claim everything...

This is one of the reasons why some in the Southern Philippines are crying for a change in the system to a Federal Sytem so that revenues are spent from where they came from...

The solution to that is to devolve... Of course why do you think NAIA is congested? Simply because development is focused in Luzon -- thus people flock there... Tourism, propagandas, etc.. etc.. are all focused there...Â* Even during the time when Disneyland was scouting for a new site in Asia, only Subic was put in the shortlist (from the Philippines)... How about some areas down south which by the way are far safer than the ones up north...Â*

General Santos City was envisioned during the late 70s as a center of trade and commerce considering that it has the best roads in the country and even the biggest airport in terms of land area... It is in a very strategic location putting it only a few hours away by plane from neighboring countries... But then again what happened... One cannot blame the muslims for rebelling.. We can only blame the government...

When the Americans left Subic it was in shambles but thanks to its so-called volunteers that it rosed up... But it was not until Ramos' time that he focused his effort in its development to the point of spending national money there and with Dick Gordon brainwashing foreign investors to invest there... There are so many growth centers that came first before Subic and Clark especially the ones down south, why not hasten their development too?...... It's even far more ironic that Clark and Subic's international airports came to be developed first rather than that of Davao's even if Davao is a big urban area with so many visitors and traders coming in and out....

When Dick Gordon was interviewed and asked if the Subic and Clark SEZs would compete with other SEZs especially the one in Cebu, he then retorted, "I envision Subic to be the shipment hub of the Philippines.. Products manufactured in Cebu would be shipped to Subic (international port) and Clark (airport) and from there would be flown to other countries..."

    Now doesn't that sound impractical

how could you cross the 'bridge' by starting from the other side? you should start from where you're standing now on one side (building the infrastructure our country needs), crossing the bridge (sustaining the development), going to the other side (achieving progress). following your topsy-turvy thinking, who needs a bridge by 2050 when we're going around in helicopters (we're rich di ba?) coz that's our only way of transportation, coz we didn't have roads and bridges before then! geez, those wackos of 2005! but I wonder how'd the population got rich without roads and bridges. not even in SIM City.

General Santos huge potential, problem is the area is tainted with image of terrorism. Even the local govt. officials of Gen San is frustrated with this. Ever wonder why people are not pouring huge sums of money in area? Because the risks does not justify the cost.

Anyway to all those provinces nga nag reklamo, about all the injustices. Why don't you all follow the Cebu model na lang. Don't wait for the National Govt. to do things for you. Let your local govt. do the act. Lihok in short. That's why Cebu is so successful.

INFRASTRUCTURE is the name of the development game. and there are no excuses if we really want to rise from the s**thole that we're lying on now. really, we can't underestimate the effects of these type of projects, like they did to ancient Rome, or the US when they're building interstate highways like crazy. in our case, this will be a trailblazing project that without it all other development efforts won't be possible. just like the Mactan Bridge, who would build an international airport or EPZ in Mactan without that bridge? on the financial side, this is not a case of a misplaced priority like what others are thinking, where having this project means depriving other urgent needs like hospitals, schools and blah blah blah. we need these projects critically as well. they should be addressed urgently and not be pitted against each other. why, before this project was ever conceived, were there efforts to address these so-called more urgent problems? we're as broke as ever anyway.
some people will always find excuses to oppose this endaevor for some reasons. but just imagine what if the people behind the North reclamation, the two Mandaue-Mactan bridges, and now the SRP and coastal road, etc.. gave way to excuses during their time.
besides, as it is said that japan is into it in some ways, so what's the big fuzz about? they even saw the potential of these projects. take it from them.

i'd still say go for it , connecting these islands will really strengthen the visayan bond, travel will be easy , and transporting of goods will be a breeze and all that will equate to good business.

people , one of the first things that business investors will consider is good infrastrucutre .

and looking at the san juanico bridge , i dont think this dream bridge will remain elusive.
