wala lang decoration ra gud.
people who have these in their houses, most assuredly, have rural roots.
adunay tigulang who told me that big spoons and forks are for the "capres/agta" whenever you invite them to eat in your place. kahoy jud na cya usually kay sumpa nila ang most metals, especially silver or bronze (there are so many variations of the story nga wala gyud ta kahibalo sa tinuod... ug naa man gali'y tinuod). the reason you invite them to eat (with unsalted food, of course, kay sumpa na sad na) can be either of two things - you curry favor and have a request (one story i heard is kasal daw sa iyang anak unya wala daw sila'y plato ug mga baso ika-handa nya mang hulam cla sa capre) or you have intentions of trapping/controlling a capre to do your bidding; the latter requires more lore know-how, something nga wala gayud ko'y alam.
but then again, i haven't seen any giant wooden spoon or forks that have been recently used. although, i can tell you this - that wedding i shot in the province did have all the plates and glasses that they needed.
