Depends on your needs, XP if regular office works and other multimedia applications xp can meet that demand, Win 7 highly recommended for games (New API/instruction set from hardware are design for Win 7) since both OS and hardware are optimized to work efficiently in Win 7.

Linux if your more on to Opensource programming, developing LAMPP applications and such....
Also linux has lots of Distros (Distribution) you can play with.

For me lang ha...Walay OS nga mas better over the other in terms of general usage. If you will talk about "you want to play new games" then I would go for Win 7, if you talk about "office work, casual multimedia use or surfing the net and you have XP and dont have the budget to upgrade to Win 7" then stick with Win XP. If you talk about "I want to develop application using python with free decent IDEs or want to setup cheap server" then Linux is a choice.

Windows XP is the best for me, i can do everything with XP, i can do CAD/CAM in it, i hate if someone says windows s*ck, ahahaha wala gali sila kabalo nga ang casing nga gepang gamit sa mac nila ge design na gikan sa windows using ang CAD software nga dili mo dagan sa ilang gepanghambog nga MAC. LOL.

For me
Basta Games = Windows 7
General Use = Windows 7 or Ubuntu
Server = CentOS and Debian (mao raman ako nasuwayan)
For Low end PC = Windows XP (Intel Atom, pentium4, pentium 3)
