It's a bit harsh but sometimes it is what reality has for us...

Peace and security has deteriorated greatly for the past years... Madahan nimo nga gun-for-hire, 500.00, motira na!

But I disagree to the statement nga "wala tay mahimo"... Dako ta ug responsibilidad sa atong society... A simple self discipline would mean great!

"Change starts with our own selves!"

I take it that you are from Cebu or you've been living your life in a big city like Cebu. I'm from Mindanao and I've seen this type of killing. You're right when you said this type of killing is regional and the fact is this does not happen in Cebu but most part of Mindanao and rural or agricultural areas in Luzon and Visayas. This agricultural areas is roughly 80% of the country. You may ask why? We are an agricultural base nation and because of that we have lots of farmers. The problem is landlords are oppressing farmers to the point that they have no other option but to fight back either through legal means or take a more direct action by joining arm groups like NPA.

Instead of helping this farmers which is basically the backbone of this nation the Government deserted them and allowed this type of killings and oppressions. Of course it is understandable because the said landlords are the governor, mayor, congressman who has influence on the police and the military. Take for example Hacienda Luisita, it is own by Cojuangcos, family of former President Cory and now President Noynoy. When Cory implemented CARP to distribute lands to farmers the Hacienda Luisita remained in the hands of the Cojuanco.

The truth is, justice in our country has a price. If you are rich and influential you can have your own version of justice.
It's not true that the farmers are the backbone of this country. For the most part of recent history we have been a net importer of food products, that is, much of our food is now imported from overseas. This is particularly true of rice. Our ability to import comes from the strength of our non-farming industries, for example manufacturing and services (call centers).

It is not accurate or true to say that the country will collapse if all our farmers suddenly stopped producing goods. We would just import more of them from overseas. While there are strategic repercussions to being 100% reliant on overseas food supply, the fact remains that we can this and still survive.

CARP is a bad idea.. why is it communists and leftists seem to think that this has to be implemented here when it has never been implemented in any of the best agriculture exporters (U.S., Australia, New Zealand). What's the point of distributing land to people who don't have the skills, equipment or work ethic to keep it? Are you aware that a lot of redistributed CARP land is simply resold by the so-called farmers in violation of the law?

The real solution is to provide subsidies for farming equipment to the rightful owners of the land. Hate the big landowners all you want, but the plain truth is no country can be rich if it does not protect the property rights of owners. CARP distributes land on the basis merely of such people having worked in that land, even if it is not theirs. Why the exception for agricultural workers, why stop there? Let's divide up our factories and give them to the laborers. Let's divide up our call centers and make each call center agent an owner. Yea, let's kick out all the capitalists and let the workers run their own affairs. I'm sick of the bleeding heart mentality that we have to help the farmers at all costs. Tell me, what have these farmers done to increase their own productivity and become competitive with the rest of the world?

How often do we read about people being gunned down in Cebu? Actually it's so frequent that it barely makes the front page anymore. Murder-for-hire type killings more often than not go unsolved and to think that Cebu City is safe is delusional. It's simply less dangerous than some other part of the Phils.

though i agree with farmers not the backbone of the country, but i think it would be economically sound if we have self-sufficiency to protect us from food supply disruption by global economic forces..

im strongly against CARP.. mao ni rason nga ineffective kaau ang rice production. kanya2x man gud mga farmers.. and also, individual farmers have no access necessary technology.. tabla ra ni og feudalism nga tag-iya ra sa mills ang mka ginansya... mas effective tana ang agriculture if we let corporations handle them.. i believe on collective effort.. at the very least, farmers should create their own corporations.. kanang coop system s insufficient ra kaau.. dapat naa form of organization
