1. Mostly dyes (Rose bengal, PSP or was it BSP dye excretion test) or radioactive substances....Excretory test are not routine!
2. albumin is made in the liver, as most of the Plasma proteins!
protime is to test for most the coagulation factors, which are also made in the liver, but is usually asssayed to detect bleeding abnormalities(which is a common complication of liver disease)......so pwede sad siya to test the synthetic function!
3. some MDs dont know the shortcut...i dont know why but for example: when they suspect inflammation they request for ESR, but its not specific for inflamation, a better test would be CRP, and when i was an MT intern there was a RESIDENT who was fuming mad ngano dugay kaayu ang resulta sa BLOOD CULTURE(takes 3-5 days to be positive) Kay USA ka ORAS na kuno KAPIN, since g kuha ang Blood, to think nga RESIDENT na siya....i guess there are some MDs who are just like that....depends cguro on their training sa ila school
4. the SGPT and SGOT are both liver enzymes found inside the hepatocyte, But SGOT is not specific for the liver its also found in the heart, so you have to take into account the ratio of SGPT:SGOT Another enzyme ALP is for bile duct obstruction, but is also non specific cause it also has isoenzymes!
5. hep E... i dont think its available in cebu but is diagnosed by Signs and Symptoms of Hep, and negative serologic test for A, B, or C
Yup, jaundice is the yellowish discoloration of the liver, also known as icterus....but its a common misnomer to call hepatitis: jaundice...hehehhe its sort of "interchangeable" to ordinary people but not to medical professionals...hehehehehe
pre-hepatic jaundice is caused by a hemolytic episode, which increases Bb conc, since its a waste product of rbc destruction
and has no liver involvement
Hepatic jaundice is caused by malfunction of the liver, which impairs the Livers ability to metabolize or excrete Bb.
Post heaptic jaundice is caused by obstruction of the bile tracts, impairing excretion into the intestine so the Bb is "pushed back" into circulation,
as in the case of Larva Migrans or Schistosomiasis, and biliary obstructive diseases
Peace too Bro!!!
