yeah, maybe I agreed to the wrong description.. sorry about that.. I didn't think anybody would have really SHUT DOWN those guys. What I meant was, he was an effective defender against O'neal compared to other guys.

Shawn Kemp was almost unstoppable back in 96, and I think Rodman was able to get into his nerves and slowed him down a little bit.
I think Rodman was pretty effective in defending Shaq in the playoffs between the Magic and the Bulls.
And I could remember Hakeem Olajuwon outclassed Shaq on the offensive end in that 95 Finals, not much on the defensive end. It was more of Shaq's inability to guard The Dream, not because Hakeem is such a great defender. And this is not, in any way, to downplay Hakeem's defensive capabilities because to me, he's great at it.
I just think that Rodman, despite his size, was able to held his own against a behemoth in Shaq. And he did it much better than the others.

Ohh I'm damn sure about my Basketball knowedge and I know and saw how damn good Hakeem's defense is on Shaq... Better look up on the net what The Dream has acheived on the defensive end my friend...

"Olajuwon became the undisputed leader of the team. He led the league in rebounding twice (1989, 1990) and shot-blocking three times (1990, 1991, 1993). In the 1993-94 season he became the only player in NBA history to win the NBA's Most Valuable Player (MVP), Defensive Player of the Year, and Finals MVP awards in the same season. His Rockets won back to back championships against The New York Knicks, avenging his college championship loss to Patrick Ewing, and Orlando Magic's Shaquille O'Neal. In 1996, Olajuwon assisted in the gold medal-winning performance of the United States national team, and was selected as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History. He ended his career the league's all-time leader in blocked shots. Olajuwon is also the only NBA player ever to end his career in Top 10 for blocks (1st all-time) and steals (7th all-time)."

"In the NBA Finals, the Rockets swept the Orlando Magic, who were led by a young Shaquille O'Neal. The whole basketball world had waited for the matchup of the two great centers, and it was Olajuwon who outscored O'Neal 33–28 PPG. Olajuwon outscored O'Neal in every game,[21] scoring 30+ points in each of the 4 games, and raised his own regular-season PPG rate by a full 5 points whereas O'Neal's production dropped by one.[25] Olajuwon was again named Finals MVP. During the entire 1994–95 playoffs Olajuwon was unstoppable, averaging 33.0 ppg on .531 shooting to go along with averages of 10.3 rpg and 2.81 bpg.[4] As a side note, Olajuwon was again the only All-Star Rockets player.[26]"

Shaq's production dropped by one... That IS a big deal...

Not much on the defensive end? Olajuwon is one of the most celebrated defensive player in the history of the NBA for chrissake! Shaq was literally schooled both offensively and defensively...

What can Rodman do Pester Shaq to elbow him right on his butt ugly mug Rodman is 6'8 210 Realize how much size and height difference there is when he guards Shaq at 7'0 310? Even then, double teams would not be enough againts the young and chiseled Shaq... And do you think Phil Jackson would be stupid enough to allow Rodman to play him man-to-man defensively? Hell no... If memory serves me right, it was Luc Longley who guarded Shaq most of the time back then when the Bulls went up againts the Lakers... Shaq and Rodman transferred on different teams on the same 95-96 season, Shaq WAS NO LONGER A MAGIC when Rodman was already a Bull... Shaq was already a Laker when Dennis became a Bull... There was NO WAY Dennis was able to "stop" Shaq when the latter was a Magic because Rodman was still a Spur at that time... LOL!... After that 94-95 season after the Bulls was eliminated, in came Rodman in the 95-96 season where the Bulls went 72-10... SAME season Shaq joined the Lakers...

Can you see Dennis Rodman in this game? BTW this is the last season Shaq suited up for the Magics... Next season the Bulls swept the Shaq-less Magic with Rodman already at the helm...

YouTube - Jordan's Final Minute nightmare at Orlando 1995 playoffs G.1

Ben Wallace was only able to contain Shaq in the 04' Finals because the Diesel's career was already on the decline back then with nagging toe injuries...

I saw that 95' Finals game where in the Rockets sweep the Magics, and it was because of Hakeem's brilliance at both ends of the court!

I admit that Dennis Rodman is one of the most celebrated defenders in NBA history but definitely not the best...

That honor belongs to Bill Russell and Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon...

"the 62-win Spurs with freshly minted NBA Most Valuable Player Award winner Robinson entered the Western Conference Finals and were considered favorites against the reigning champions Houston Rockets who had only won 47 games; it was thought that Rockets center Hakeem Olajuwon would have a hard time asserting himself versus Robinson and Rodman, who had both been voted into the NBA All-Defensive Teams. However, neither Robinson and Rodman, who had disrupted a playoffs game against the Lakers by sitting down on court,[7] could not stop Olajuwon, who averaged 35.3 points against the elite defensive Spurs frontcourt, and helped eliminate the Spurs in six games." LoL!

    I rest my case...

most athletic siya nga player nga na coach ni Phil Jackson.la man ingon si P-Jack nga the best defensive player of all time.and i doubt Rodman is the best defensive player all of time....if ako papili-on si Scottie Pippen akoa pinakamaayo mo depensa nga player except big man...la pa to si Pippen sa Bulls dili to makadaug ug ingon ato ka daghan nga Champs ang Bulls.

    Here's what I'am sure of...

Rodman is better than Bowen and Artest...

Bisag pareha boangon ug utok si Artest ug si Rodman, at least Dennis KNOWS HOW TO WIN...

When the game is on the line, Rodman's tenacity, passion. hussle and hardwork anchors the team...

Artest is a loose cannon who is more of a liability than an asset... Labad sa ulo ra g hatag... Great defender but lacks discipline and that drive to win...

All in all, when you talk about Rodman, he is a winner on the court...

Never can I find anybody who helps his team win at all costs than Dennis Rodman. How many times was he ejected tagging along him other team's stars like Alonzo Mourning? Dennis Rodman knows what he's doing and he's damn so good on it, be it publicity or playing ball.
