Allan Houston Making a Comeback Pt. 2

It has been reported that former $100 million dollar man, Allan Houston, will make another attempt at a comeback to the NBA. According to sources, he has been talking to Donnie Walsh about attending the New York Knicks’ training camp later this month to vie for a spot on the Knicks roster.

Houston made an attempt last year at the beginning of the season, but subsequently quit because he was not in shape. Since then, Houston has been working out and practicing for the 2008-2009 season.

If Houston is in NBA shape and he still has his beautiful shot, the Knicks can certainly use him on the floor. As it stands right now, their only outside shooters are Jamal Crawford and Quentin Richardson (both of whom can be streaky at times).

Ron Artest now has his new team's logo etched in the side of his head. A pretty solid barber-work. As we all know, Artest is no stranger to expressing himself via hair art.

Going outside the basketball realm, some celebrities, including NBA stars, in Central Florida were heavily criticized after too much use of water. Orlando Magic's star Dwight Howard was charged with 189,000 gallons for July while former Magic forward Grant Hill used up 263,000 gallons in May. Apart from Howard and Hill, golfer Tiger Woods is also in the list using up 107,000 gallons in his home last April and lawmaker Chris Dorworth was charged for 79,000 gallons last June. Each of the listed names had bills not getting below $1000 per month, a farcry from a normal Florida household bill of about $20 a month.

People are getting so concerned because of the enormous use of water, prices have already gone up. Orange County Utilities have already increased the rates as soon as the consumption increases per thousand gallons. But needless to say, with the kind of checks these people are receiving every month, price increase will never be an issue.

"Somebody ought to go to those people and say, 'I know money doesn't mean anything to you, but water means something to us,' " - Jake Varn, a Tallahassee lawyer who specializes in water issues and former director of Florida's environmental agency.

Baron Davis Leaves Reebok For Li Ning

In news first reported by FirstCuts’ Rich “MaZe” Lopez late last night, we have confirmation from a source at Reebok that Los Angeles Clippers point guard Baron Davis is leaving the brand for Chinese apparel maker Li Ning.

Davis becomes the second big-name point guard this offseason to leave a U.S. footwear maker for a Chinese company. Jason Kidd, days after winning the gold medal in Beijing, joined Peak in favor of Nike.

Li Ning, the company, is named after the famous Chinese gynmnast of the same name. If he sounds familiar, it’s because he lit the torch at the opening ceremony earlier this year. Li Ning's footwear roster also includes Shaquille O’Neal. There was plenty of Li Ning gear on display during the recent Beijing Games. Spain's team, led by Pau Gasol, wore Li Ning uniforms. If anything the move for Davis at least comes as less of a shock than Kidd's to Peak because of Li Ning's established reputation.

Ewing Jr. to Wear No. 6

Patrick Ewing Jr. will wear No. 6 for the New York Knicks rather than don his father's No. 33 in 2008-09, according to NBA.com.

"I'm going to wear No. 6," said the younger Ewing. "It was my dad's Olympic number, and Bill Russell's number, who was my favorite player."

Fans in New York were eager to find out what number he would wear, with rumors that he might grace the court wearing No. 33.

"My dad's jersey's hanging up there in the rafters for a reason," Ewing Jr. said. "The only reason I wore 33 at Georgetown is because they don't retire numbers. I felt like I did 33 for him there, and now I can do six here and it's another way to honor him."
