unsa may buhaton sa support group kun suicide survivor? mo ingun sila nga "ayaw lang kaguol pag-ayo, better luck next time"?

@diehard: ofc not -_-, you teach them how to value life, relationships, and theirselves. this is the goal, but it's not as easy as it sounds.

up for this support group. i was actually up for a physical group. you can't really give out hugs through text or here. but i guess there are advantages to having this here online at the moment. if everyone's ready for a real support group, count me in

to let them know that they have the support group to listen and help them.. to help them cope with their problems and find alternative ways to solve them.. usually ineffective mani ilang coping system..U

guys, sorry to hear some of you are clinically depressed... there was a time when I had the compulsion to end my life for no reason....the only thing that stopped me from doing it is my love for my family...i can not bear the thought of leaving them...it's not fair...so, i talked to my doctor and she gave me prescription for anti-depressants....i took it for a while and then i slowly weaned off the medication. also, counselling helps.

People commit suicide, not because they want to die, but because dili na sila ka-cope with the pain. They don't have the coping mechanisms to get through their problems. They don't (we don't) actually want to die.

The role of a support group is to give them, well, support. The members or organizers go beyond just comforting and sympathizing the person. They are there to also give tips and advice on how to cope with the illness. (Because depression is an illness.)

Coming from firsthand experience, I would say that we actually value life, relationships, and ourselves. There is nothing wrong with our ability to value those things. Ang coping mechanism namo ang ineffective. Or there may be a chemical or hormonal imbalance sa among bodies. I think this is why dili mi dapat ingnon nga pray lang or laugh it off. Depression (which is the number one cause of suicide) is an illness like cancer. Dapat jud i-treat not just i-pray. (Although maka-help ang prayer to make people more positive.)

I don't mean to sound condescending or angry or anything like that. I just wanted to change the perception people have of those who suffer from depression. =D Hey, but I'm happy that you are in support of a physical group. I'm really excited for a physical group so I hope to hear more positive responses from others on the forum.

Thanks for sharing your story. Are you okay now without the meds? These days, what helps you cope with problems?

ang lisud i. coupe na depression is money problems.

@leslat116 That is not necessarily true. If the depression is caused by money, then maka-make ka ug plan of action to get out of the financial rut. Like maybe go into counseling, find support from people in your life, get a job, etc. PERO! If imong depression naka-cause sa money problems which in turn makes you more depressed (and then it becomes a cycle), then dapat ang depression na jud ang ipa-treat.
