Mag agad na ang range nimu boss sa imu antenna ug sa unit itself and also sa elevation nimu. usually kung handheld lang ka with rubber ducky antenna and daghan obstruction in between sa imu ka communicate ug dili mo elevated, ky mao ra na ang usual range na 1k m to 5km max unless lang kung mag repeater ka. Line of sight man gud na ang transmission sa signals between stations, so kung elevated kaayo ka, the lesser obstructions you have and the lesser interference you get from a lot of things.

Kung mag repeater man pud ka ug mag install ka ug outdoor aerial ky need ka ug license ana. Even ang usage sa handheld radio ky naa na limitations sa model na dili mag need ug license to operate. You can inquire sa NTC for licensing queries. Helpful ra man sad sila.

I have tried it once with a handheld na 1watt from Mountainview ang ako ka communicate and ako ky naa sa Lapu-lapu. Rubber ducky lang ang antenna ky loud and clear man japun unless lang matabunan ko ug dagko na buildings na diha na walay reception.

Ako friend sa Mindanao ky naa siya 30ft tower with a bunch of antennas ky maka abot ug Japan iya transmission ug reception. Once, he was even able to talk to a guy in the US although nag repeater na siya ato.

anyway, if ganahan jud ka mo venture into radios, there are also a number of clubs and groups you can ask and hopefully they would be nice enough to answer your questions.

It is a good investment and good preparation for emergencies. Hope this helps.
