AFTER a two-week break, the top four teams will start their bids in the semifinal round of the 2010 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum at 4:30 p.m.
The semifinal round is a round-robin affair among the top four teams and today’s hostilities will be between the no.1 and no.4 teams in both the high school and college divisions. The top two will advance to the finals.
High school top seed Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons will play their lone tormentor, the no.4 finishers University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers, in the
opening match. Collegiate powerhouse, UV Green Lancers, will face the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras in the main game at 6 p.m.
The two battles are expected to be down the wire matches as the teams are well equipped with talents and skills.
The Dragons lost to UV, 81-76, last Aug. 8 during the elimination round—a week after CEC scored an opening day win over the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Eagles.
UV suffered a humiliating defeat from the Eagles, 71-66, last Sept. 4, the reason they slipped from the top to the fourth spot.
However, the Baby Lancers vowed that the defeat will never happen again and winning over CEC will put them a step ahead of the pack.
The Dragons, however, are bent on making a huge impression this season following a woeful finish last year.
The Lancers, who are shooting for their 10th straight Cesafi title, defeated the Cobras, 75-57, in their Aug. 30 meeting final elimination round game.
The four other teams who made it to the semifinal round are the SHS-AdC and the University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters in the high school division and UC Webmasters and the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors in the collegiate division.

Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu pulls off twin kill
Tuesday, September 28, 2010
THE Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) swept both the Passerelle and Small Basketeers Philippines (SBP) division titles of the Milo-backed Best SBP Passerelle Twin Tournament for Cebu.
The Magis Eagles grabbed their fourth straight Passerelle division (Under 15) championship by beating the University of San Carlos (USC) North, 94-56, at the USC North Gym.
Their younger counterparts defeated USC South, 63-49, to romp away with the SBP division (Under 12) championship.
In the Passerelle division championship game, SHS-AdC overcame a slow start and broke the game open with a searing run bridging the second and third quarters.
The Magis Eagles were up 24-21 after the first period behind the shooting of Henry Asilum and Dave Yu. The two accounted for 22 points, including two triples each. But
John Pajantoy and Rey Arnejo combined for 17 points to keep USC North in check.
SHS-AdC stepped up the tempo with their second period players with tournament MVP Adrian Muller leading the attack with eight points. They also limited the USC North offense to 11 points while padding the lead to 10, 42-32, at halftime. Asilum led SHS-AdC with 15 points. (PR)
