Legalizing Prostitution is the Wrong resolution to a broken "machine"
Why not find ways to get rid of Prostitution? Shouldn't we rather make more jobs for them women?

There are a lot of women and young teenagers who sell their bodies or perform sexual favors for money. They prostitute their bodies for money, clothes, and other materialistic things. They are degrading themselves and showing no self-respect for themselves or people who care for them. They are letting men take advantage of them and abuse them.
Prostitution is not safe. For some men, hiring a hooker is like an initiation into manhood. They might feel that they can do anything they want to the woman because they are paying them. Many prostitutes hang out on street corners where the customer can see them. Street corners are not safe. Prostitutes get arrested and some of the tricks that pick up prostitutes hurt or kill them. So why are woman prostituting?
There are all kinds of sexually transmitted diseases (STD's), the deadliest of which is the disease AIDS. AIDS kills and is something no one wants to risk catching by being unsafe. AIDS is not racist nor is it sexist. You can not run from AIDS and having *** with many partners who you don't know can be very dangerous. If someone hires to have *** with a prostitute, they might not care what happens to them after its over. The question again: Why are women prostituting?
Some women and teenagers sell their bodies to make money in order to live. It might seem like the only way to survive. Money seems to be a key motivation behind prostitution.
A lot of prostitutes have pimps who collect money from them and in return offer to protect them. Some pimps have houses for the women and some stand on street corners to watch out for a suspicious trick. However, some pimps beat the women, kill them, and take half of their money. Pimps make money off of women who sell ***, and often don't protect her at all. Some pimps are the most dangerous trick of all.
Some have suggested legalizing prostitution. This idea indicates that some think that it is not possible to find prostitutes other jobs and that prostitution is going to be around no matter what. Maybe making it legal would make it safer.
Prostitution might
seem like the only
way to survive...
First of all, let's take a look at how much money is spent trying to keep prostitutes off the streets. In the year 1985, America's majors cities spent an average of 12 million dollars each on controlling prostitution. In Los Angeles alone, it was reported that 100 million a year is spent on enforcement and court costs for prostitution. Just think of all the other things that money could be going towards. If prostitution was legal, it would be considered a business. The government could collect taxes from that business, just as it does to every other business in the United States. A prominent criminologist, Dr. Reynolds, states that a 20 billion dollar a year prostitution business now costs the government 3 billion dollars in uncollected taxes.
Since prostitution would be a legal business, the government would also be able to regulate it. This would mean they could make STD testing mandatory. This would lessen the spread of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
The government could issue licenses and zones for prostitution. Creating zones would take the prostitutes off of the street corners, and parents would be able to walk around with their children without worrying if there is going to be a prostitute standing waiting to turn a trick or a pimp hanging out and acting tough. It would clean up our streets by making special zones that the public would know about. Pimps might not be necessary any more at all, and prostitutes wouldn't have to worry about being pressured to do more tricks or hand over their money.
Other people think legalizing it would make matters worse. We may face that many of our adolescents in this country would think that turning tricks was an acceptable career choice for them. As a result many may not further their education, which we all know is a necessity today if you want to have an career that is truly interesting.
Further more, we have this issue about AIDS and other STDS. The government may make testing mandatory, but that does not mean that any prostitute will in fact get test. Why would people who know they are infected volunteer to end their only way of life? Last, but not least, prostitutes have already created their zones in cities; most people that are looking for prostitutes know exactly what area of town to go to find them.
