    Just my 2 centavos worth...

Mga bro and sis, forgive me for this very "shallow" interpretation of religion. *I hope I won't offend anybody and if I do, mangayo na ko daan ug dispensa.

Religion is a gamble, risk-taking. *The ultimate prize if you win...is eternal life (that's what most of us believe anyway.) *Just like in a horse race, we try to pick which one we BELIEVE will give us that coveted grand prize. *

I believe that my religion will bring me that grand prize... and I'm sticking to my religion no matter what. *Just like me, others also have their own favored religion (the one they belong to), coz that's what they believe will give them eternal life.

Let's just R-E-S-P-E-C-T one another. *Freedom of religion is protected under our Constitution. As long as the sect/group you belong to does not violate anybody's right and it is legal (not a cult), then you have all the right to practice that.

And so there's no point fighting and arguing here.* Which religion is the TRUE RELIGION? Who knows? Each of us will claim that "my" religion is the right one, the winner.* Are you 100% sure What if you're wrong?

I believe, that at the end, it doesn't matter which religion you belong to (or which racehorse you placed your bet on) but how you lived your life... and only God can judge that.*

    Just pray and do good!

Please name these institutions and SUBSTANTIATE those charges by showing that ONLY rich people go to those institutions..

I went to one one such school that some people mistakenly think is for the rich only. What people didn't know is that fully one-fifth of the student populartion at tha time was on SCHOLARSHIP! BY now, the percentage is probably even larger. Church-run hospitals also have free services for the poor, and they are often far better than the services offered by government hospitals!

So the charge that they cater to the rich only is TOTALLY FALSE AND IRRESPONSIBLE.
remember the KALABASA AWARDS that TOMAS handed to this hospital?

    Complaints

Osmeña cited various complaints against the hospital that were brought to his attention by some City Government employees, crime victims and even his own friends.

Worse, there were even those who were denied of the hospital’s services.

“Ironically, Perpetual is the most anti-poor hospital in the city and this hospital is even managed by nuns. That’s why I’m thinking of giving them the kalabasa award next Charter Day,” he told a news conference yesterday.

Maybe they should get some vigilantes then. But we're talking about different hospitals now. Tacloban <-> Cebu.

Over 20% of them are poor in the school I'm talking about. That's better than many other schools in other countries.

    I beg to disafree.

Nevertheless, I have to ask what the word religion means to you before we can proceed any further.

As for me, religion is the way of man of binding back to God. I agree with St. Augustine of Hippo and the historian Lactantius on that, by the way.

one that suits the idea of religion in its simple beginning, is that given by Lactantius, in his "Divine Institutes", IV, xxviii. He derives religion from religare (to bind): "We are tied to God and bound to Him [religati] by the bond of piety, and it is from this, and not, as Cicero holds, from careful consideration [relegendo], that religion has received its name." The objection that religio could not be derived from religare, a verb of the first conjugation, is not of great weight, when we call to mind that opinio omes from opinari, and rebellio from rebellare. St. Augustine, in his "City of God", X, iii, derives religio from religere in the sense of recovering: "having lost God through neglect [negligentes], we recover Him [religentes] and are drawn to Him." This explanation, implying the notion of the Redemption, is not suited to the primary idea of religion. St. Augustine himself was not satisfied with it, for in his "Retractions", I, xiii, he abandoned it in favour of the derivation given by Lactantius. He employs the latter meaning in his treatise "On the True Religion", where he says: "Religion binds us [religat] to the one Almighty God."
That quotation is taken from http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/12738a.htm.

The act of religion then implies that we bound ourselves back to God. This is the primary notion of word religion when it is applied to the life of poverty, chastity, and obedience to which individual men and women voluntarily bind themselves by vows (some more solemn than others). This is the very reason why we call such persons as religious.

Broadly speaking then, religion is man's voluntary subjection to God. Catholics believe that the first act of the virtue of religion is adoration (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph # 2096). 'To adore God is to acknowledge him as God, as the Creator and Savior, the Lord and Master of everything that exists, as infinite and merciful Love.' If that could not save you, I don't know then what could.
