Red Bull 5 wants Isaac
By Rey Joble (Manila Standard)
LEO Isaac, the former Ginebra Gin King, is a success story of a player-turned-coach.
This is the reason why it’s no surprise to see him coach in the Philippine Basketball Association one day.
The Red Bull Barakos, orphaned by their head coach at the end of a miserable Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup campaign, are reportedly seeking the services of the former Ginebra star, who rose to prominence as a player of Robert Jaworski from the mid-’80s to the early ’90s.
Now a winning coach in the collegiate and amateur commercial leagues, Isaac is now one of the top candidates to fill the void left by multi-titled PBA mentor Yeng Guiao.
Guiao, also the appointed coach of the national team to the Fiba Asia Men’s Basketball Championship this year, has resigned as coach of the Barakos, ending a nine-year partnership with the Photokina franchise.
A highly placed source told Standard Today that Red Bull management is now discussing the possibility of having Isaac on board after Gee Abanilla, the team’s assistant coach, reportedly turned down the head coaching position because of his other commitments in the Philippine Basketball League and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
