Riddle: A steer weighing 630 kilograms requires 13,500 calories a day to maintain its weight. That amount of food turns out to be proportional to its external surface. How many calories does a steer of 420 kilograms require?
Ans: 10,330 cal..ú Please find my solution below..
Given: Weight 1 (WI) = 630 kgs.; Food 1 (F1): 13,500 cal.; Weight 2 (W2): 420 kgs.
"amount of food = external surface (surface area - SA)", but SA = LD^2 (Linear Dimension), and W (Weight) = LD^3 so, LD = W^1/3. With this, SA is therfore equal to W^2/3.
By ratio and proportion: (F1/SA1)=(F2/SA2), but SA=W^2/3; hence (F1/W1^2/3)=(F2/W2^2/3); (13,500 cal/(630^2/3)*(420^2/3)=F2; F2=10,330 cal. -- Yehey!
^^mura man ug exam pag college.. lisud sabton pro sayun ra ug solution..ú
aw. hehe. #51 diay to. i was thinking all in all, but dili mumatch ang letters. AALLLL man. but and post is AAALLL. so i'm still thinking kung unsa jud.
#28. out for the count? lol. la jud ko idea.
wow! im sooo amazed! mu bow na jud ko nimo sir gaRn![]()
here's my answer:
Weight is proportional to linear dimension (length or girth of the steer) cubed. Surface area is proportional to linear dimension squared. Therefore, 13,500 x [ ( 420/630)1/3 ] 2 = 10,300 calories
hehe.. sakto na ang all in all girl for #51 (or it could also be all in all in all.. LOL!)
ang #28 kay di mao pro you close to the right answer na![]()
