From wikidpedia: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idolatry)
"Catholic and Orthodox Christians use religious objects such as Crosses, Icons, incense, the Gospel, Bible, candles and religious vestments. Icons are mainly in two and rarely in three dimensional form. These are in dogmatic theory venerated as objects filled with God's grace and power -- (therefore Eastern Orthodoxy declares they are not "hollow forms" {see idol} and hence, not idols).
Evidence for the use of these, they claim, is found in the Old Testament and in Early Christian worship (see Wikipedia article under heading "Icons")."
I grew up in a Catholic school and I think I understand why saints are included in the Catholic prayers. And I think this quote from Wikipedia helps to explain it.
Ang problema lang gud karong mga panahona (or maskin pa sauna) kay ang mga rebolto man gud sa mga santos mismo ludhan ug ampoan na. Given that images only represent divine personages and those divine personages act as adjutants between man and God.. pero sa ako nabantayan ang mga pag-ampo usahay gi-direkta na man gyud mismo sa mga santos.
For example: "San Pedro, padauga intawn to akong numero.": "San --- padauga intawn ang Ginebra."; "San --- papasara intawn ko sa exam."; "San --- pakuana intawn ang etc..."
Even if the prayers towards the saints are sincere and with good intention, dili gyud angay unta
i-direkta mismo sa santos if the saints are there merely as adjutants for us towards God.
And from this famous verse:
"...You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them;..." (Exodus 20:3-6).
Maskin pa siguro ga-represent lang ang mga rebolto sa mga santos, ug ang mga santos mutabang kanato pagpaduol sa Ginoo, pero dili gyud angay ludhan uy.
Murag sobra na na nga pagpakita ug reverence.
From Meriam Webster (
www.m-w.com) definition of the word "worship":
2: reverence offered a divine being or supernatural power; also : an act of expressing such reverence
3: a form of religious practice with its creed and ritual
4: extravagant respect or admiration for or devotion to an object of esteem
Para sa akoa, murag nahulog na man sad gud ni nga worshipping bro.
