Diplomats accuse Garcillano of lying

Even Foreign Affairs officials say former election Commissioner Virgilio “Garci” Garcillano is lying through his teeth.


A Filipino diplomat yesterday debunked Garcillano's claim that he never left the country, saying Singapore's immigration records will show he arrived in the city-state on July 15 and left the following day.


The diplomat, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Philippine Embassy in Singapore received a note verbale from the Singaporean Foreign Ministry confirming that Garcillano was there in July.


“Mr. Garcillano is lying. He cannot claim that he did not leave the country. It was properly documented. The Foreign Ministry of Singapore would not lie to the Philippine government,” the diplomat stressed.


The source added that after receiving the diplomatic note, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore transmitted a report to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Manila that Garcillano passed through that Southeast Asian country.
