To set things clear, neutrinos are not a recent discovery. I've read about neutrinos in my high school text book. Neutrinos travelling faster than the speed of light -- this is the recent discovery.
Well, that is Science. Previous truths are proven wrong.
It's the mass–energy equivalence.
The recent discovery does not necessarily falsify this formula, though it uses the speed of light, denoted by c. This about the relationship of mass and energy. You could say energy (E) is equal to the product of its mass (m) and a conversion factor. A massive energy requires mass to be converted in the square of the speed of light in a vacuum. The formula is, more like, pertaining to extremes.
