naa ron diha ang kalainan if modawat ka ug ginagmay or dinagko.

bottom line is, you need to give yourself a chance to grow in wedding photography business investment + ROI = survival

this is a nice thread. agree ko sa points sa TS and nila sir caranzo, nowayL, Eve's. in any business naa man jud mga well established nah and naa sad ang mga start-up pa lang. same2 raman sad ngali na sa photography (i'm not sure kay as of now hobbyist raman ko). the 64k+ pf nga photogs are the one's u expect to have the high-end full frame cameras, studio, assistants, editors and you expect top quality from them. on the other end of the spectrum kai naa raman sad gud mi mga starters pa nga camera and kit ra ang naa, at times naa lng upgrade nga gamay, some get paid but i know some like me nga free ra. we do it for fun and the results aren't expected to be amazing but for the love of the hobby kay we do our best when doing the shoot and post processing, hit or miss lang sad ang results. but like sir nowayl and eve's said, kung naay mu-offer nga mu-shoot ko sa event nya bayaran ko ug 10k why not dba? i just don't see it in my direct future nga mu-quit sa akong day job. wala ta kbaw if i slowly get more and more clients nya daghan2 na ganahan sa ako output then that may be the day to invest in a business then ask for a higher fee. for now, hinay2 lng, learning pa bitaw. hehehehe... ka taas bah sa ako na-yaw2.. hahaha... God bless natong tanan and let's keep shooting may it be for our hobby or our way of living! ^_^

    IMHO

    - reality speaks for itself that majority of the couple who get married are only earning minimum wages
and with your 280 per day do you think you can afford to spend 69K photography budget?
    - even manager who only earns 20K-30K monthly salary still looking for an affordable services.
    - unless you have a big savings or you have a lots of money where you can spend more than 69K.

    - what happen to those less fortunate (like security guards, janitors or even waiters) can they afford the 69K budget?

    - and one thing also, if their is strict rules of being a photographer and you need to enroll and earned your degree in photography, is it makes you a better photographer?
    - now what happen to those photogs who do self-study are they disqualified to this business? if ever this is the case then i need to hang-up my camera and go back to a day job.

lastly, every budget depends how much your customer can afford.

    just my 2 centavos.
-Syempre did2 sila sa baratohon, meaning less gear(P&S) x less experience(sideline sideline) x less skills/research photogs.

-The Reason for making TESDA accreditation for Photography is to secure you and the clients/employers. More Photography Business now are not even SEC/DTi/BIR Register. It dosent mean mo quit naka sa imo nahan ee trabaho kundi mo sakay lang ka sa rules, Driver need Driving License to work.

-last year i work parttime album layout artist in Chicago for a month and i ask the photographer if everyone can afford her rate, she told me of course not all here in Illinois got that budget for a wedding so they go for a kid with a camera and pay him peanuts. GOOD PHOTOS ARE NOT CHEAP, CHEAP PHOTOS ARE NOT GOOD.
And the Photography Business is not a non-profit CHARITY WORK! But if you want to help just offer once a year to a poor couple for free.

-mu dawat man ghapon kog couples na maka afford lang og P1k per hour nako (1.5-2k ako per hour rate) samot na if gwapa or gwapo na couples kay magamit na sa ako portfolio (good portfolio = more potential clients)
NAA LANG GYUD mga uban na Couples na KAhibaw ko dako ila budget nya mag tinihik pa gyud kay para ma bulsa pa ila budget (mostly couples ila budget sponsor man sa parents/relative and ninongs)
Like Last Month nai couples na hangyu kayu sila 15k budget for photo and video (F*ck) and kamao ko pila ila budget which is 300k kay kaila ko sa ila pamilya, nya grabe kayu sila nag tinihik sa halos tanan. (sure ko if nag basa ka ani Regel kamao ka kinsa ako pasabot hahaa) And thats signal nga you have to turn down kay ikaw ra ma ankalse sa hago.

    Gears:
    Camera System
any mid-range dslr like canon 60d or nikon d7000 + cheap prime lens or 3rd party f2.8 wide and mid zoom lens

    Computer + Internet
25k budget PC or Laptop can handle PP for 4-6yrs
make marketing collateral's and promote your business to the world using the internet.
Abuse Social Network Sites its one way you can do negotiation without facing your clients XD

    Experience
Shoot everyone and everywhere. let your client work with your budget atleast 80% of all the clients. Always Research for the latest trend and apply it if its pretty enough to last a lifetime. Be Open-minded to all styles but always make your own. but if your current style of shooting does not work. Save that and try another one.
Learn from the Best, style, marketing and even how they look & smell. presenting your self will always get you more clients. if nakay budget para gym og pa facial buhatana kay good looking people always get the job.

    Business + Marketing
if you can afford Marketing Agency, hire them. if you can not do it yourself.
Learn how to manage your money. sample: MAKE YOUR OWN MONTHLY SALARY EVEN IF YOU OWN YOUR BUSINESS if your rate is 25k and sa imo calculation nakay ma kuha na 5k ginanasya sa imo hago, + imo ma meet ang 4-8 bookings per month so naakay 20k-40k na ginaansya, always put it in your mind imo salary is only 20k per month if nai subra ee save lang cuz nai time na mga 2 bookings lang ka sa month like MArch and April pinaka mingaw na month sa wedding and event photography.
Buy and Keep the Gears that you only use.
Practice Public Speaking it will help you be more confident and prepare.
If nai Publication nahan mo use sa imo Photo for FRee do it if that publication is well known and ma credited ka, Thats already Free Advertising. But always ask if you will be pay, Reminder lang na sa Publication GAmay bayad og usahay libre, basta ayaw lang sugot if CHAKA na magazine/newspaper hahaa
Join Groups or Clubs, not photography clubs but business clubs this are the people you want to be close or make friends with. This people might need your service so better be active and be known so that when they need a Photographer ikaw una ma sulod sa ila pag pangita.

    etc.. etc...

@TS: thanks sa info bai. but i noticed way cebu sa imo gipanghatag (mas pa nga wa jud na sa mindanao). how will we be able to build a guild bai kung gamay ra ang naay chance makaskwela ana bai. naa ra sa NCR tanan. I remember nag offer ang IAFT og photography & tesda sad (but dili bachelors degree) before.sorry ngutana nalng sad ko, naa ba ang mga known universities ana diri bai? I think the main discussion is the business of photography & not the art right? if so, i think mas angay nga i regulate tong mga nagpa seminar og photography kay mas dako to silag igo (1-3 days ra ,wa pajuy i-edit.). 6K is only for those hobbyista nga nag try lang if makaya nila. later they will realize nga di na mao ang saktong rate, mosaka rana sila.

When i say HIGHLY RECOMMENDED the way they teach is not only for the money but it will surely give you BIG UPGRADE sa Photo knowledge.
Good Thing they allow me to enroll Photography Subjects even thou im enroll to 1yr 3D Design and Animation. And some teachers are kind enough to invite me for their class as a sit-in student hahaa

i think i-academy in makati and CIIT will open Diploma Course in Photography, which is more cheaper tuition than St.Benilde.
