Car choices depends on the preferences of the buyer. It would be bias if I'd say go with the accent because I owned one. But as what others said, it's a long term investment and you should scrutinize every aspect of it before you decide.
We'll, my sister has a 1.5G 2nd Gen Vios and definitely drove her if she doesn't want to be in the steering wheel, while I owned an Accent 1.4AT. Both have Pros & Cons, but at the end of the day, it's up to the buyer nor the owner as to what aspect of the car he choose outweighed the car he has been comparing with.
Now a days, it is not a guarantee that the Toyota name can save you from headaches of maintaining a car. The same is true with Hyundai, Honda and the rest. Look what happen with Toyota's D4D Engines (In which my dad suffered on his Fortuner) during its first releases, though I haven't heard of new cases on newer models na.
While Honda on the other hand, recalled over 5,000 units (2nd gen Jazz & 3rd Gen City) due to a suspected poor quality rocker arm/valve spring parts. Good that Honda bravely accepted its liability unlike Toyota na until these days, never accepted nor conceded that their is something wrong with their D4D Engines before.
My suggestion is, drive both cars, scrutinize every possible details of the car, then weigh it according to your preferences like trunk space, leg room, riding comfort, engine power & fuel efficiency, quality of after sales service, maintenance affordability, etc.
Decide based on what car has satisfied your own preferences & needs.
Remember that "Brand A" vs. "Brand B" is a never ending argument...
