Usa ra akong ikasulti, sa tanang investment either naay return of investment og wala.

Last nakung nadung-gan "Rank and File" man gyud ng developers.
Unless Team Lead ka, pwede na ka ibutang og supervisory.
Naay uban companies, Team Lead, "Rank and File" gihapon.

Given the same requirements (Same Project), Dili nalang nato i-apil ang capital kay pildi gyud Microsoft kay dako kaayo capital kahinanglan. Same amount of resources, time and etc.

Who can say that Open Source cannot do whatever Microsoft can do?

Fact is, open source projects can provide the same amount of functionality than their corporate counterparts.

Naa ko nadung-gan Java project, 50 Million Pesos ra ang nakuha, but then you don't ask how much they invested?
You ask what they invested...Time...just that. ( They were give a downpayment, so they didn't have to spend with their own money)

Familiar mo og term nga "Too big to fail", usually related ni og "corporate" projects.

Kung ang ilang gipangbayad sa mga "corporate" products gibalhin na lang para sa sweldo, nindot unta kaayo.

One more thing...Convenience doesn't always mean the best.

Last pa gyud, sayop akong tubag sa thread...PHP ko!

If these companies just makes websites, PHP is best as it's cheaper. .NET is more than that.

I have to admit nga I was a bit BOOM and ROAR in my statements. So sorry about that.

It would be fairer for me to say, if private companies would learn more about open source technologies,
they would have saved a lot more money. Then I wouldn't have needed to take a bite out of Microsoft.

It's just in the company where I was, They were using both open source projects and corporate.
This is not a software company...so the hassles of licenses and other stuff, there is an evil using
corporate products as their options just becomes narrower and narrower. It is even funny that some software have a probability of not running on the newer versions of corporate software.

Imagina inyong production software dili mudagan sa Windows Vista, maayo gani naabot ang Windows 7.

Where ang among open source projects, bisag unsa nga machine ray butangan, dili paka mabalaka og pirated. Dili pa gyud bug-at. When you say .NET is more than that, I would have to say, it is really a bit much without being robust.

Hi...I'm trying to understand of what exactly you mean about corporate software. We are talking about ASP.NET and PHP so its either ASP/IIS vs PHP/APACHE. On clientside activity as to webpages can be access no matter how your backend technologies you've got.

you probably misunderstand how Microsoft products licensing works. FYI, IIS is just one of great features that came along with Windows Server Operating System and not only that...you can have the great old features such as MMC, AD, DC, DNS, Network Balancing, and latest version of it is packed with Hyper-V architecture...no wonder that MS OS still place as number one on the planet. other than that, MS still most commonly use desktop OS, so imagine how many clients you've miss if you going to focus only on Linux/Unix base system, (case if you are developing desktop applications).

Licenses was never been an issue for us, in fact the counterpart RedHat appears to be more expensive. see their pricing:

Windows Server 2008 R2: Pricing and Licensing
    https://www.redhat.com/wapps/store/catalog.html

there's alot of facts people don't bother knowing it. as for me, Microsoft is cheap, and more advance especially their collaboration with intel on these multi-cores system. try visit Intel websites. (sorry if this out of topic).

above statement is truely base on my experience only.

    @MarkCuering

Firstly, when I mean corporate, I mean Microsoft, kay kapoy sige ingon Microsoft.

Apparently, we live in different worlds, I have no choice but to say that.
So I generally liked your statement since I get to learn new stuff.
Anyways, my statement is true for the company where I was so I'm really surprised with your situation.
Actually, your statement is so obvious, I think I was being clumsy.
Basically, dako ang coverage sa market and whatever network chuchu, that is why you can fully leverage
on Microsoft products. Amen. Otherwise, wasn't the success accomplished by open source projects such as Facebook. I don't know if I am going off trail to your point, as I am beginning to think that any of them would work.

Otherwise, why use Red Hat when you have Fedora Core?

And back to the topic...PHP I like...Associative Arrays are cool...

    Hi,

facebook was not a opensource projet, but a project by Mark in harvard (long story actually)... the success of facebook is not because they're using PHP. its completely different story. try to grab some documentary video about facebook, i learn and was inspire by that video. they have also partnership with Microsoft from startup, they are currently rewrite php to c++ to save tremendous cost of power supply. even challenge AMD and Intel to deliver the right server lol... but again, its completely different story.

what we know about them or read from internet may not be the same.

and I cant answer your question why use Redhat when we have Fedora, my field allows me to meet Microsoft sorry about that.
