according to theoretical physicist Michio Kaku, it's an airplane contrail.... radar images recorded in the area shows no signs of any missile, only planes.. and also, booster rockets travel about a whopping speed of 15,000 mph but the sighting was traveling more like of an airplane speed...

'Missile' Mystery Solved: Flight from Honolulu to Phoenix
PHOENIX - The mystery behind that streak in the sky off the coast of California may have been solved -- and some people in Phoenix may have been involved.
There was talk it was a missile, but the Pentagon said no missile was fired.
During our Tuesday night newscast, we brought on a military expert who said it had to be a plane.
Wednesday, a web site devoted to contrails determined this was caused by a U.S. airways flight from Honolulu to Phoenix.
The site came to that conclusion this way. After the Pentagon said it was most likely a plane, the site researched which flights would be in the area at that time.
So exactly 24 hours after the mystery streak was seen, a web cam in Newport Beach, California captured a similar streak.
US Airways flight 808 from Honolulu to Phoenix caused this streak. The pentagon has not confirmed this -- but agrees that this was no missile -- it was definitely caused by a plane.
