    User Review: Coleman Avior X1

    Rating:
    Design: Three+ season, stake-down style
    Sleeps: 1
Ease of Setup: Tent is easy to set up. Requires fully 12-14 stakes to make it rigid.
    Weight: 3.5 pounds
    Price Paid: $100

I used this tent for the first time in 10 degree weather on Southern California's 10,000 ft. Mt. Baldy in late January. Camped on snow and found it easy to pitch, and warm inside. The other three backpackers I were with had their water bottle freeze inside their larger tents, but my tent stayed completely warm and "freeze-free". The low profile and limited space inside the tent proved to be beneficial for this extremely cold environment.
It did not snow on this outing and I do not know how well the tent would have handled a snow load. I had my ski poles and boots ready to rig an additional support cross-member inside the tent, as necessary. Tent comes with 16 tent stakes - I used 14 in the snow to properly stake it down.
The only gripe I have with this tent is Coleman's inexplicable placement of the interior zipper "start" position for the side door towards the foot, or narrow, end of the tent. Whenever you want to unzip the tent to step outside you must reach way down to your feet to start the zipper. Very inconvenient.
I also own the 2-person version of this tent - I particularly like the low profile and wind-resistance shape of this series.
