Ditto! I totally agree with you.
If you want to eliminate your accent TS, watch American English movies. But the thing is, if there are people who are tone-deaf when it comes to music (meaning wa sila kabaw na yabag sila), there are also some people who, even when they try to mimic phrases and statements they hear from movies, don'trealize that they were not able to say something correctly. It appears to them as if they said it in the same way as the actor/actress did. What I suggest is, you get yourself a voice recorder. Record one line or statement from the movie and then record your voice following how it was said. Then, listen to it. Chances are, you are going to hear or notice the difference of your voice and the actor's since you hear your voice from the recorder and not from your mouth. Once you're done perfecting one line, don't delete your file right away. Write the line down on a piece of paper and then try another phrase. Gather up to a hundred phrases (or less if you think that's too much) and go back to each one everyday. Record your voice everytime so you can check if you have improved. You can ask a friend to listen to your recordings. His opinion would surely help, especially if he has a good accent of his own. Once you are good with your first set of lines, make another set. Try TV commercials, song lines, or anything that sounds good.
I know it will be quite arduous, but it can really help. I know a lot of people who eventually eliminated their regional accent through this process. I was their trainer. lol
hashahahahah..... the key word here is practice ♥♥♥
You can't blame some call centers kung ingnon ka na naa kay "regional accent". After all, mga American customers man ang usually gi-cater nila. And apparently, mosalig ra kuno ang mga Amerikano sa mga Amerikano. Kung maklaro sa accent na Bisaya ka ug dili Amerikano, naay chance na mawad-an ug salig ang imong Amerikano na customer.
Like the others suggested, it's good na ma-expose ka sa mga English movies and shows para maka-understand ka on how foreigners speak English. Maayo sad na practice na magkanta ug English songs.
However, dapat sad i-take note kung unsaon pag-pronounce ang mga words. My suggestion is to check the pronunciation of the words in [Dictionary.com | Find the Meanings and Definitions of Words at Dictionary.com]. You might be shocked to know that the proper pronunciation of words isn't the way we've been used to pronouncing it.
Pwede sad ka mo-take ug free online ESL lessons sa YouTube.
