Had a fortuner and sold it. Honestly, i just could not stand the ride. I have tried 2 different brands of aftermarket springs and suspension and i can say that no matter what you do and how much you spend, you just could not improve its ride. I think it has got to do with the way it is designed. I test-drove a montero and the ride is way way much better than the fortuner. I ordered one a month ago and its going to be released this week.
For those who are doubting whether to get the fortuner or montero, i suggest to test-drive both on a very rough road and observe the difference.
If you test drive a fortuner on a smooth road with no cracks or uneven surface, of course you would say that it has a nice ride. But use it on a bad road and you would see the difference. Trust me. I have been there already.
If you are only basing on looks, then no doubt, get the fortuner because it looks better than the montero. But if you are after the ride comfort then get the montero. Its way better than the fortuner. Anyway, the montero's look isn't bad at all
