If we can have sub-forums wherein 'forumers' can discuss topics and not be challenged, and another sub-forum wherein 'forumers' can actually challenge and respond to challenges, things might be more orderly.

Yeah, something like the Kapuso and Kapamilya threads--no trolling!

since josephdc suggested a forum board with sub-forums to cater to different beliefs, i'll just add to what he said:

- members should be required to get permission from the moderators/admins to access SnO, like they do under the Mature Discussion board. the way to do this is to require members to "submit" their "belief", this in turn makes a substantial basis from which the mods can set "permissions" to the said member.

- set permissions or "Allowed Groups" to the appropriate sub-forum. example, for the atheist sub-forum, only atheists can post such and such topics pertaining to atheism; Christians aren't allowed to post there. same goes for Christianity, etc... etc... atheists aren't allowed to post there and vice versa.

- make a special board for debates as what josephdc suggested. if there is a sub-forum that requires in a iron-fist, it would be this DEBATE board. i suggest having a moderator (springy) spend extra time to this sub-forum since this will be a place for heated discussions. and i know springy is not paid to do this, but it's better to pay extra special attention to only one board (debate) than moderate an entire SnO section.

- set permissions for all members to access the debate board without prior access request. in other words, this sub-forum will be "free for all".

- sub-forums make SnO look organized. thus, i agree with the idea of sub-forums.

just my 2 cents. i'm not really familiar with vBulletin. so in reality, i'm not even sure if my suggestion applies.

I think segregating the S&O forum into sub-forums might be a good idea, too. Perhaps we can arrange it this way:

1. Philosophy (All things related to philosophy such as metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, logic, aesthetics, etc.)

2. Theism (All things related to religion):

2.1. Protestantism
2.2. Catholicism
2.3. Orthodox
2.4. Judaism
2.5. Islam
2.6. Hinduism
2.7. Buddhism
2.8. New Age and Occult, etc.

3. Atheism (All things related to atheism)

4. Debates (Debates on issues related to philosophy, theism and atheism):

4.1. Informal debates
4.2. Formal debates

Members who want to explore a particular topic or issue and who don't want to challenge anyone's idea or beliefs can post under the first three sub-forums. Those, however, who are more interested in engaging in a friendly debate with fellow Istoryans can post topics under the fourth sub-forum.

I suggest na i-categorize ni nga board like Gnosticism/"New Age"/Occult, Christians, Islams, Catholics, Protestants, Buddhism, etc...
