I've got problems with most of what he posted but this mainly did it for me.

Obviously he is a DSLR user and since his line of thought is that:

People who proudly carry their DSLR's are likened to pros.
People who DSLR for shooting P&S style is noobness :P
Point 2 is emphasized with the obvious sarcasm of 'oh well'. Denoting a faked relief and ease on the subject matter.
He considers himself a pro (as he owns a DSLR) who never shoots P&S with it..never. Unless he does, then he's a hypocrite.
'Wenk' inserted into a serious remark showed the child within (lol)

This all of course assumes he's a DSLR user which if he is not, only means he is either sour graping for not having one for himself and that he talks about what he doesn't understand.

I'm sure he's none of those last two mentioned.

    Now, i've concluded.

Points all taken. However, I personally don't feel that the points you enumerated is enough to arrive at the conclusion that we're dealing with an "elitist" or "childish" person here. He (the thread-starter) like you and me, is just expressing his observation on what he feels is an observable phenomenon (which I myself have often observed, as of late).

The main reason I basically raised this point because in your original post, you mention this line:

...I would have locked this topic already...

In the light of what has been expressed by the original thread-starter, I believe it can be misconstrued as a veiled threat--i.e. "don't you ever express ideas such as what you have expressed because I shall only lock it, for I find it childish and elitist."--and thus discourage anyone else from starting a thread such as this one. To you, that might be a welcome thought, but I rather found the subject interesting and it would be such a pity if other people cease from posting similar topics for fear of being locked by mods who deem the topic "elitist" and "childish". You people wield a power that has both pro's and cons, so at the risk of being "thumped down" myself, I simply wish to remind you that sometimes, words from a person who has the capacity to strike you down has a very negative effect on how we all expect proper decorum should be.

    Just my thoughts.

I still stand by what I've said but I appreciate the fact that you've taken the points in. To you they might not have been enough but as you've admitted we are entitled to our opinions. We have just agreed to disagree.

It wasn't a veiled threat. It was a blunt ridicule of that post and that's how I intended it to be. Call me a nonconformist but I'd guess one would put a lot more effort in their thoughts before posting something like that again.

It may be a valid point to some people but the delivery was a big insult. It's insulted my sister who loves bringing and using my Dad's DSLR. It's insulted my cousins, plural, who've recently acquired their own DSLRs and are using it a lot in the same way as negatively described by that post. It's insulted my Japanese Night Auditor (I read and translated this to him) who uses it all the time to take pictures of everyone and the V (peace) sign he makes them put up. A single post that does that, in my book, deserved to be locked.

We try to encourage (at least I hope we do..haven't been around in a long time) towards photography and not away from it.

I was quite happy at the turnout though. Not everyone agrees with the thread starter and they expressed it as freely as he did so I didn't lock it. Like you said, man, words have powerful influences in people.

I appreciate you taking time to disect my post. If you have any problem with that I'd recommend reporting my actions to the administrators.
this is the line --------- cross it. i dare you

pagka ka lagwom ba sa chika diri woi. some people like it, loathe it, pretend to be it, etcetera, etcetera, and so forth, but let them have their fun in the sun. my experience in this is rather personal as i have my own sweat as a source of income to even think of buying a cheap 2nd hand body or even the humble nifty fifty, for something that i love to do. i admit that i feel jealous when i see people with all their fancy bodies and white lenses served to them in a silver platter, and can be downright unfair, but hey - such is life. it's a very subjective thing, really, but if it makes them feel good, then i'm all for that. nganong mag lalis man intawon ta kabahin sa mga hype2x na ang plete karon kay tag otso na? all i can say is this: mediocrity will try to convince others to think like they think about this topic, maturity just listens, and greatness just is. bato2x sa langit... and all that jazz.

that should make us improve on our craft, even it's a begineer dslr or a pro one it's not a guarantee we will get that shot. buying dslr is part of the learning process in photography. Later on you will also be braggin what you have it's all but natural on this that passion we call photography. a shot is always a lesson and we can brag all we want. and nowbody will say stop, just take the shot! and live with it.
