is this the 12-24mm or the 11-16mm? coz I think the ave. price for the 12-24mm is around that range.

if wide is your game, i'd go for the constant 2.8 11-16. sure, the canon glass MIGHT have better image quality, but i go for fixed aperture for something like this. besides, you shoot digital, right? if you were shooting film, that would be a different story altogether.
