PHP, JSP, and ASP are the most popular web development tools/technology as far as I know and
heard of. I also know for a fact that open source communities support either PHP or JSP. Copyright enthusiasts support ASP.
But to what extent can you say that a web development tool is widely supported ?
I chose JSP | Struts because maintenance is easy.
Widely supported means who uses it ... the community ... the webhosts ... the enterprise. You choose it because of what you call maintenance ... that doesn't make it the future. The framework has been around for a long time, if it hasn't become mainstream yet, it will never become mainstream. Technology that is used by a small number of developers relative to those developing with other frameworks whether it be PHP frameworks, RoR, Django, etc, supported by a small number of hosts, and developed by a small number of companies and enterprises != the future.
